You know, after finishing it I've got say, I really liked Valvrave
What's with all the complaints against it?
It had likable characters, an interesting story that played with a lot of mecha tropes and managed to push boundaries in a lot of novel ways, and most of all absolutely great action.
I really don't get it...what's not to like?

No, really, how in the world did you hate all of them? They were all really fun. Haruto was a really fresh take on the unwilling mecha pilot, L-Elf was a really good heroic Char/Lelouch/Kira type figure, and Shoko was love incarnate

People have shit taste. I liked the cast too. I suggest you to hunt down the cd drama last episode for a final chapter closure so it all comes together.
All the anime was to soften L-Elf to become the leader the world deserve after Cain broke him.

About the plot, VVV is very generic, almost like it's a meta joke about Sunrise's mecha shows but the characters where likeable, Haruto is surprising human and flawed.
Not something groundbreaking but still fun to watch.

The ending of season 1 ruined any chance of it being great. And when I say great, I mean as a trainwreck. The writers lacked any type of awareness for their own product and everything good about season 1 was merely accidental.
