Just finished Maison Ikkoku and really enjoyed it, definitly my favorite romantic comedy animu

I'm thinking of starting Urusei Yatsura, but I'm not sure what order I should be watching in (has like 50 movies and ova's) any advice from fans?

Also, as a side note, is Ranma 1/2 worth watching?

Still don't know how someone who could create something so good could go on to make inuyasha

I'm in the same boat as you anyway. I'm interested in watching Urusei, but I have no idea where to start.

At least i've found a kindred spirit, have you ever seen anything else by Takahashi? Masion ikkoku was GOAT

read the manga, watch the movies. Ranma is OK, nothing to serious, if you like comedians go for it
BTW best ending

Post-Ranma 1/2 burnout. That series went places she never intended it to go and I think it's popularity frightened her. Inuyasha is nice and safe in comparison.
>>
>>120042914
So you're saying avoid the series alltogether?

Say I want to watch the series, is there specific points where the OVA and films fit in or are they seperate like tenchi muyo?
>>
>>120042914
*comedies
fuck
>>
>>120041839
The anime is pretty OK imo
>>
Maison Ikkoku was the only Takahashi work with a great ending.

I tried watching Urusei and got through 30 episodes, and lost interest.

Ranma is my favorite anime. Definitely a must-watch.
>>
>>120042994
Watch the series if you want, in my opinion the manga is better, but they have some differences, the movies don't follow the plot of the anime, except for the 5 movie that is the ending. Some of the ovas follow the plot, others don't.
>>
Ignore them.

Just watch/read both Ranma and UY.

It's unfortunately the last good thing she did before Inu-yasha and tarnishing a good reputation.

Also look up her short stories, and mermaid scar. She has issues with giving her creations proper endings. (excluding ikkoku)

With the television series, the first 106 or so episodes were animated at Studio Pierrot and directed by Mamoru Oshii. It starts out really cheap-looking but gets better.

Then the rest of the series is handled by Studio DEEN. I can't say much about it because I've not gotten to that point yet, though I've heard the budget goes up a bit.
>>
There were SO MANY great Ranma manga stories that were never animated, it's like 'WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!?'
>>
>>120043281
I usually watch an anime first before delving into a manga or else It ruins the anime viewing for me, depending on how much I like it i'll check out the manga

I want to, but nobody is helping me on the order

I've heard movie 2 is the best one and some of the Ova are essential to the plot, does anyone have a rough order to watch it in? Google didn't help

Fuck you

>>120043471
Too yaoi-esque for them, I guess.

>>
Ive only read the manga and seen beautiful dreamer. I highly recommend both.

Ranma 1/2 is Rumikos best work. (Tough choice between this and urusei yatsura)
>>
>>120043541
> Ranma in the backpack

Nigga that's kawaii.
>>
Hey OP just saw your thread.

Maison Ikkoku is extremely good.
Ranma is great.
Urusei is also great but I haven't finished it yet. I'm still at episode 95. There are so many. Haven't seen any OVA or movies though.

I'd advise you to watch ranma 1/2 before urusei, it's closer to maison.

And finally I leave you with these words: Coach tanaka should've won the Kyouko.
>>
can someone tell me why people hate Lum the forever?
>>120043517
anime>ovas>movies
there isn't a exact order, but the fifth movie is the ending, that is all I know
>>
>>120043682
So basically
Original series>finale movie>OVA>all the other movies
>>
>>120043541

Possibly but over all it was funny as hell. Too edgy for early 90s tv maybe?

>>120043617

I second this notion.

Ranma OVA/movie order doen't matter much. Just watch all of TV, then go into movies then OVAs i think.

>>120043966
Given Ranma's intended target audience, maybe they just decided it wasn't a relevant arc to animate.
>>
>>120043682

The second OVA references the second movie, so it actually makes more sense to go series > movies > OVA's
>>
>>120043966
I think this anon has solved my problem

Assuming production order is the way to go
>>
>>120044053
but you need to watch inaba the dream maker, before the fifth movie
>>
>>120044143
>>120044053
These are both reconciled with this order

Aren't Yatsura and Ranma just the fanservice harems of the old times? What makes them good? Serious responses please fags.
>>
>>120044474
they are really funny, and UY is surreal
>>
>>120044474
Can't speak for either, but I can tell you Maison Ikkoku is far better than any generic harem we see now

It's legitimately funny, has characters you come to like that arn't just cardboard cutouts (the tsundere, the imoto etc) and (perhaps most importantly) the animation and character design of these early 80's - 90's shows are far more suited for comedy than the ridged unflexible stuff that pervades today
>>
>>120044474
Ranma is only a harem anime in the sense of the massive cast of characters. The harem aspect is actually a symptom of how shit-tastic Ranma Saotome's life is because he literally doesn't want it.
>>
>>120044474
In both cases, they're actually pretty funny and I like the characters.

I like Urusei Yatsura a bit more because it's a bit more "out there" in terms of content, IMO.
>>
>>120044711
I don't know if Urusei Yatsura really counts as a harem either. I think we all know that Ataru would love for that to be the case, but the fact is that no woman except for Lum would have him.
