Stay Night was a total half-assed war filled with highschoolers because the Grail reset about 50 years too fucking early and they were the only magi available for the Grail to pick from.

Ryuunosuke was just a murderous dumbass.
Tokiomi was Gilgamesh's bitch the whole time, doing jackshit.
Kariya thought that getting himself killed would save worm slut and that her mother would just love him for it.
Kotomine was bored and found out how to have fun.
Waver was the only sensible and most mature of the bunch.
They're all very flawed characters and that's what makes them good characters. But they're definitely not much more mature than a bunch of teenagers that act like teenagers.
