>Actually using the word 'cour'
Explain yourself
>>
>>120004502
>not using the word cour.
I bet you are one of those faggots who mistake the second cour of a show as the second season.
>>
>>120004502
It's a compact, unambigous way to reference a 10-14 episode run of episodes. Helpful when there are 13-episode series, 26-episode series, split cour series, etc.
>>
It has a more precise meaning than season. It's useful.
>>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cours

"Cours is a French word that can refer to:

Cours (TV production), a unit of production in Japanese TV programs equivalent to 13 episodes"

Next youll be mad we call it anime and not japanese animation. We borrow words from other languages. It just happens. They borrowed french and we borrowed it from them.
>>
But there are 13 episodes.
>>
>>120004931
Closer to 16.
>>
>>120005081
Will be 20 by the time the BDs come.
>>
Maybe OP was irritated that they dropped the "s". The singular of cours is still cours.
>>
holy shit it's like getting mad when people used the word chamfered to describe the iPhone 6.
>>
Fuck French 'people'.
>>
>>120004557
>implying a cours can last longer than roughly a season
Unless it's airing biweekly I don't think that can happen
>saying a 26 episode series is "one season" despite it covering two seasons of the year
>>
>>120008233
Bait/8
>>
>>120008262
You wanna fite m8
It's dumb as hell to say that half a year's worth of episodes is a single season. Cours and Season should be interchangable, but cunts be dumb
>>
Did the stupid japs use a French word or did the weebs just go with it because "grorious Nippon uses it"
>>
Season refers to
* the four 3 month periods during which anime air alongside every year
* the full run of an anime show

Cours refers to
* the 13-ish episode run of an anime over the course of a season (in the first sense)

Trivial trick to tell them apart: If the title changes even marginally, you got a new season, otherwise it's most likely "only" a new cours.
>>
>>120004575
but this has no use in the real world.

example: a 25 episode series with one major story arc. what purpose would saying that the show is 2 cours serve? OK, so it's two arbitrary chunks of 10-13 episodes, which doesn't give any useful information in this case.

No one cares how many episodes the run had; we care what marks the beginning or end of a story arc. Arc one might be 24 eps, arc 2 might be 12 eps, arc 3 might be 16 eps. Seasons 1, 2 and 3. Simple enough. No need for this cour shit.
>>
>>120008410
>Did the Japanese use a French word
Yes.
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%AF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AB#cours
>>
>>120008571
Should have nuked them 3 times
>>
>>120008588
Killing yourself even once would have helped.
>>
>>120008588
Yeah, and while we're at it we should also nuke the UK, USA, Canada and Australia for all the words English language has borrowed from French.
>>
>>120008349
Are you 12?
>>
>>120004502
They're too busy getting dat dough they couldn't give less of a fuck what your bitch face thinks.
>>
>>120008688
I don't think three would suffice there.
English is pratically a 50/50 mix of French and German with fucked up grammar.
>>
>>120008784
You don't know shit about fucked up grammar if you think english has any of it.
>>
>>120008543
It has though.
>>
>>120008543
>but this has no use in the real world.
So? We're on the internet.
>>
>>120008543
Good thing you're an insignificant insect and no one's gonna listen your gibberish except for some anons.
>>
>>120008543
Yes
But the word cour still has a meaning. It separates shows into neat chunks from a production perspective, and often things change across cours. Animators, directors, and things like OP and ED.

Fuck off, retard
>>
>calling a series a 'season' when it has nothing to do with the weather
>ameridumbs
>>
>>120008688
>>120008640
Yuros spotted. Maybe even frogs.
>>
>>120008543
>No one cares how many episodes the run had
Why wouldn't they? Stop speaking for everyone else and stop being autistic. The word 'cour' is useful to quickly quantify a series and people want to know how long it is, in the same way people want to know how many days away something is but use the word 'weeks' instead.
>>
>>120008832
You can't express that something will have happened at a future point in time in English with basic grammar.
You need to use constructions like I did in the previous sentence that are rather idiomatic than grammatical.
>>
>>120008985
>airs across different seasons
>b-but its not seasons because <illogical bullshit>

Yeah
No

This is just yet another instance of people blindly following whatever stupid japs do
>>
Everyone is insulting each other in Fate threads, this needs to stop! Please let's just be friends.
>>
>>120009081
No.
>>
Monster has 1 season and consists of 74 episodes.
If someone now decided to make a sequel it would be season 2.
>>
>>120009081
No.
>>
>>120009175
On what planet does 74 weeks equal one season?
>>
>>120008410
"Anime" is literally a French loanword.
>>
>>120008964
>12 weekly episodes
>12 weeks
>3 months
>a season is 3 months

WOW IT'S LIKE MAGIC
>>
>>120008543
Uh.

Cour is useful for explaining the structure of a series (it's a 2 cour series, there'll be a season between them). If something were to happen between cours, it's also useful then. It's also a nice unit for a length of a series.

Also it's language. This is as stupid as telling people to stop using slang because it's not real English, or complaining about non-traditional uses of words. Language happens naturally, there wasn't a vote on whether or not people would use cour to describe runs of anime.
