Day 9 is one of the longest days in the route if I recall correctly and ending and the Rain scene seems like a proper ending to one of the movies.
Also, days 10-12 are where the Nightmare scenes and most of Sakura and Rin's interactions take place. Without properly showing the nature of their relationship, their confrontation on day 15 and then reconciliation in the finale and epilogue would carry a lot less weight.
How would you feel if HF was like DEEN UBW except all the fight scenes were done properly as good fan service? I probably wouldn't mind. I don't really like the route as much as the other two.
