"Not everything" being anime you like while anime you don't like deserve to have their flaws pointed out.
Point is ,even if the writers have basically stopped caring, the show (at least outwardly) tries to hold this idea that it's a serious war drama. There was a small window of opportunity at the end of S1 to redeem a little bit but all hope of that was completely blown away in the first episode.

Asseylum is in a coma while Slaine is defiling her dream and her name. When she wakes up she will fucking hate him and likely do something completely unpredictable.
Saazbaum's position has been seriously weakened. He was forced into a pact with Slaine, which is bound to go awry when Asseylum wakes up. He's also walking on a cane now, so the bullets did some damage.
Inaho has a cyborg eye, possibly minor brain damage, and was down for the count for 19 months. He also has Aldnoah now thanks to Hime's mini blood transfusion, making him an even more important asset.

Eggs made a path of hot air by using grenade explosions, and walked along that path. His mech didn't freeze because it was never in the freezing air long enough to, because it kept walking into the hot air created by the explosions.
The bullets were curving around the mech because they got so cold while traveling through the ice field that they were in low-kelvin wonky physics land by he time they reached their target. Solution was to bring the gun closer to mech, so that the bullets wouldn't have time to cool.

Basically they repeatedly end episodes on the cliffhanger of "CHARACTER X IS DEAD" and then reneg immediately when the next episode starts. They do this at the end of S1 by 'killing off' the main character and his waifu, only to immediately bring both back in the first episode of S2.
Characters dying but not really is basically the only thing that moves the plot forward. One character has 'died' 3 times now. It's just shitty writing.
