When I watched the first episode I felt like I was watching a long drawn out movie. Almost like a chore. Does it pick up the pace, or is the first episode a good indicator for the rest of the series. The synopsis sounded like something I'd enjoy, but the first episode really put me off--which is saying something since I stick to everything I pick up for at least 3 episodes.

The tone changes a bit as it goes on but if you really didn't enjoy the first episode you probably won't like the rest. It may just not be for you. Although many seem to think episode 2 is the best so feel free to try it out.

The classifications in the game are pretty broad. Gods and Demons are more like 'light' and 'dark' supernatural beings respectively, while Man is mortals.

I'm still surprised they were able to hold that quality for half the show. Usually the dropoff happens by episode 2. There were a couple iffy episodes like 10 but overall it's well above the norm in terms of animation quality.

That's not a drop-off, that's the opposite. Episode 1 is specifically animated better because it's the first impression you get of the show. In the same vein, you'd also animate the finale better, because it's the last impression of the show. But the "normal" animation that the studio actually goes for, is what you see in the middle episodes.

Also, to the anon who asked last thread about the Japanese version of the mobage, it's pretty easy to play since the interface is exactly like the English version for the most part. There are a few mild differences (like cards in your presents lists having a one-month claim deadline on them), and figuring out what to do in event quests could be difficult, but they usually have graphics explaining those, and basically everything else works the same way.
The only annoying thing is that you have to register your account to access most of the good cards and items you win from quests, and to do that you need someone with a Japanese cell phone to help you generate a registration code. You can still do the basic stuff, though. (In the event that you want to try it out, my invite code is apjhxQ.)
