So for a while it looked like the mangaka would elect to subvert the expectations of the audience and provide a bit of social commentary. There were asides about psychology and pathways for all of the characters to mature out of childish infatuations.
Then she decided it was easier to just be a faggot. I suppose after Usagi Drop you should always expect the mangaka to choose that option.
