At the point of first season she still does not know what kind of emotion "love" is, and confused if the minor lingering feelings she have (she is not much into feelings, Saika does all the love, Anri herself is empty shell) are friendship love or anything. She is not capable of it yet, also follows the social conventions expected from her.
So major character development needed before actual love can be even an option, unless MC ready to be shealth for her blade.

It`ll be nice if there was attempt to promote Narita verse (Baccano, Duarara, Vamp, Bridge, Yozakura Quartet) as such, but i dont see a driving force like Typemoon to do it.

The gang he organized to protect himself (dead dragon) is ruined and he has two people remaining with him at the end of the novel, the yakuza guy who helped him get to where he is when he was young (Kine) and the girl who tried to murder him when Izaya was hospitalized (Manami). He asks them to get him away from Ikebukuro but claims he isn't sure if he'll make it. They do comply but Manami gets everything she can from Izaya's computers and delivers them to Shinra so she can out Izaya and ruin his life.

From what I read Mikado shows up at the end of SH 1. With the exception of Izaya the main series wraps up everything nicely anyway. Everyone's basically happy. Excluding Izaya. So new characters aren't necessarily bad.

Just rewatched S1, the only "loose end" i did not get was the plot of "fireworks" guy assaulting research facility since they kidnapped (and apparently release, since she could tell him) her girlfriend.
He was shown storming it, was still alive when Shinra concluded eye test on him - but after that was not mentioned, and this plot not relevant for anime.
I assume they deal with the whole Nebula corp later in story and that accident becomes relevant?

My biggest gripe with Drr is Izaya. Initially though he`s a gray area character - doing good stuff thre, bad stuff here but in the end it turned out to be he`s just insane evil incarnate and whatever "good" he did was always part of his plan for evil.
It was more interesting when it was "dark underworld" stuff akin to Black Laggon, and not "evil incarnate, evil mafia, evil insane scientists and evil corporations"

The problem with DRRR is that the comedic elements are very intrusive and jarring within what is supposed to be dramatic or tense scenarios.
There is murder, kidnapping, and violent beatings in one scene, and the next is Shizuo swinging a giant lamppost while charming music is playing in the background.
There is gang warfare stirring up in the city, except the gangs are joke kiddy punk gangs led by a 15 year old and another by internet tough guys.
You can't tell if you're supposed to laugh or feel thrilled.
For example Hanakana's backstory and Masaomi's backstory feel completely out of place in the relatively light-hearted setting with many comedic and fantastical elements. It's not a bait & switch like Madoka, but feels like the author doesn't know what the fuck he's doing.

I don't think he's evil - he just tries his best to be absolutely, insanely selfish. He goes with the evil Celty's head plan because he's afraid of his sense of self disappearing completely after death and doesn't mind hell as long as he's still himself. Even then,he still struggles with himself because he considers Shinra a friend and knows his actions will hurt him eventually.
I think you could speculate to hell and back about his psychological problems, though.

Unlike Nishio, Narita`s writing is not language heavy and rather simple - his strength is characters and story. Both Baccano and Drrr were good adaptations and actual improvement on LN expirience (unlike say Monogatari adaptations that dont do Nishio justice)

I rewatched it like 3 times and I still think this show is genuinely better than most shows airing right now, from multiple perspectives (Music, storytelling, art and shit).
Of course there are some cringe-worthy plots here and there but if this show is counted as "bad" then there aren't many shows left that can be called as "not bad" or "average" these 2 years.

Shinra and the Orihara twins are pretty much the only people Izaya connects with on a more personal level, but Izaya still eventually chooses to do his evil shit even if it risks their lives.
The only person Shinra truly cares about is Celty, though I think he is way more capable of connecting with other people than Izaya. Shinra just tolerates him.
