You know, on the whole, I’m liking UBW as an adaptation. It’s not perfect, but seems to be hitting the important spots just fine. So, having fun watching it and all that.
But I’m getting fun out of something else as well: reviews. No, I’m not looking for reviews to be butthurt at; that’s stupid. I’m genuinely enjoying this. I always have well-meaning fun listening to people making theories about things I’ve already read and it’s interesting when they manage to guess right; the parts they get wrong I just let pass… but then, sometimes you just find that dude. The one that doesn’t “get things wrong”, but gets EVERYTHING wrong. The one that manages to pinpoint every single important narrative pivot and make the precisely opposite-of-correct assumptions about them. Those are the most entertaining, especially if you catch them doing it live, since you can see them growing more and more irritated as the story goes in the opposite direction than the one they want. I don’t even engage them, I just watch.
Like this guy, whoever it is. I drew up a mental bingo card of stupid, and s/he’s hit every single square. Whining about Rin actually being a soft-hearted fuckup instead of a cold and methodical genius? Check. Palpable hatred of Shirou? Check. Helpless longing for things to be more like Zero? Hoho, check.
I mean look at this! Especially the last paragraphs. He thinks Kuzuki is important and actually has goals! And that Gilgamesh is going to have play a dignified, sophisticated part in the story! I don’t know what I’m looking forward the most: the rest of the show, or seeing this guy’s breakdown when the awful reality comes crashing down on him. It’s like watching a cat get himself all swollen with pride and determination to catch a laser pointer: there is nothing but sad, hopeless fumbling and smashing head-first into furniture ahead, but the poor thing is just SO sure of himself, you just gotta watch.
Ok, it's clear nobody cares, but I can't stop reading this shit. Look at it! He gets SO CLOSE to the point and then swerves the fuck away.

I think this is the problem with UBW, but not about the show itself, but the viewers. Some viewers are just plain retarded, mentally unabled to understand what's going on, just asking for action scenes and the like. I find reviews like the one you posted pretty entertaining too, I don't even get mad, I just feel a bit sad for them because one might think that anime is not meant to be taken seriously, and when you understimate anime like that, this is what happens. When you explain everything to the audience, what's left for the viewer? Isn't that also a way to understimate the audience?
I study Computer Science, and a teacher told us that technology isn't a right, but a privilege, otherwise any moron can use a computer, and I share this because you can relate it to the review we're reading now.

Yeah it's funny how he hopes that UBW will have an interesting plot or characters when it just goes on being focused on Shirou and his retarded ideals that only /a/ will enjoy watching because everyone else hates it.
How do you guys suppose people will react to Kotomine's death? On one hand, they might be really mad that his death was so "anticlimactic" since they're coming off how "cool" he was in Fate/Zero, but then again, they might also root for Cu Cachoo proving himself as the superior Lancer.
