Have seen Otaku no Video. Would rewatch it just to see the crisp old Gainax animation. Nadia's BDs looked awesome.
Too bad Eva's upcoming BDs will probably look shit. Eva was shot on a 16mm film to get more money for animation. Was good enough for TVs back in the day.

Looks very smooth, like ran through a 2xKai filter. Hopefully it's just this frame, some of the Gundam BDs were butchered with such. Patlabor BDs went right with the grain.

I'm sure this isn't the only BD release of old series that is like this. Hell there are plenty of older series that are being re-released today only on DVD. Akage no Anne raws are 720 I think. Haven't looked at the BD but I assume it's upscaled, otherwise what's the point?

It's inconsistent, some scenes have more than others, sometimes it moves a lot and sometimes not, etc., I think in some scenes it's even a bit distracting.

Unfortunately Portrait of an Otaku segments look like garbage, possibly worse than on DVD. 24fps (was VFR for 30fps on DVD) and upscaled with really poor colours and very blurry. It's to be expected since they were filmed with cheap cameras, but I'm pretty sure it didn't look that bad on DVD (there were other problems like combing and stuff on it though).
