Yahari/Oregairu LN Volume 10, Complete:

http://kyakka.wordpress.com/yahari-light-novel/volume-10/chapter-8/

I realize there's already two other threads, but they seem mostly anime-centric and shitposterific.

Expecting around the usual amount for the threads anyhow. Also, happy end of 2014 and Happy New Years.

Happy new year, Spyro.

Hey Spyro, what was the ominous thing you mentioned about the end of Volume 10 way back when you first started translating the book?

You're making me worry about Komachi's future here, Spyro. We've seen here have a small breakdown in this volume, and Hachiman has refused to consider the possibility of her failing, and if in the next volume he's to wrapped up in whatever drama's happening to notice her less than stellar state...

>Miura turned back noticing that we were at a stand-still.

>“Yui, thanks.” She faced Yuigahama and lightly tapped her shoulders. Then, she rotated just her neck and gave me a look. “Ahh, Hikio, too.”

Correct.
First Memorandum: Yukino
Second Memorandum: Hayama
Third Memorandum: Haruno
>>
>>119114530
Not much suffering. At least not for 8man. A bit of Iroha at the start.

Third memorandum is likely Haruno.

>“I wonder if genuine things really exist…” Haruno-san looked overhead at the winter sky with suspended thick clouds and muttered. Where was her question that was tinged with a faint ring of loneliness directed at?

>I had been waiting for that person who could surely see right through me.

HarunoxHachiman OTP
>>
Alright, let's clear this up. First memorandum:
>the difficulty was a little out of my league and as a middle school student, it was fairly tedious as well. I had plenty of other fun things to read too
That's not Yukino. She doesn't shy away from a challenge, and she doesn't like having fun. Besides, didn't she study overseas in middle school?

Second memorandum:
>I couldn’t forgive myself for having expectations, for thinking I had understood, for thinking I was understood.
Doesn't seem like Haruno. Who would she have expectations for? Who would have let her down? Haruno is not the self-loathing type. She's confident and self-assured. She has to be in order to play the villain to motivate Yukino, as implied in volume six. On the other hand, Hayama is already known to be the self-loathing type, with his "I'm not as nice a guy as you think" line. Also, there's this:
>perhaps, they might find me. Perhaps they might see right through me.
Compare this to chapter six:
>“I see. So Hayato’s expecting something, too.”
>“Something that’ll find him, I guess.”

Third memorandum:
>Lending my ears to those words that I thought to be the sweet whispers of a devil brought my gradual transformation into a monster of reliance.
>It’s when you came to realize your own evil that you become desperate to suppress it. In masking it away, others saw it as the truth, and eventually, it became something natural to you that it turned into the truth itself.
This fits Hayama to a tee. Hayama, the man who always meets expectations. Hayama, the man who everyone trusts (source: Ebina). Hayama, the man who relies on no one (source: Tobe).

Unless you want to claim that several different people all stumbled across books by Dazai while cleaning their rooms, and each of them stopped what they were doing to read it and empathize with it, it's pretty clear that all three memorandums are from the same point of view. It's Hayama.
>>
>>>119115691
Yuis purpose is to be ntred

Thanks!
>>
>>119116400
I'm pretty sure the Monster of Reliance is Yukino, considering it is something that Haruno and Hayama constantly criticize her for. Plus I doubt Hayama is aware of the "genuine thing" 8man was talking about that is referenced.

The Tyrant King in the memorandums seems to be an obvious description of 8man, and the way the narrator is describing him makes it pretty clear that Yukino is the narrator.
>>
>“I also forgot to tell you something… I hate you too,” I said as I turned my face away.

>Hayama looked at me in wonder for a moment, but suddenly laughed.

Someone could enlighten me on this part?:

>“Just so you know, you’ve got another thing coming if you’re going for that.”
>“Hikki, shush!” Yuigahama nudged me with her elbow as if chiding me.
>Miura moved just her neck and glared at me. “Huh? I don’t need to hear that from you, Hikio.”
>“R-Right…”

Honestly don't get it.
>>
>>119117201
I didn't get it too
maybe Iroha?
>>
>>119117254
If it is Iroha, then Miura is talking about Yui.
This fucking subtext man
>>
>>119116909
>I'm pretty sure the Monster of Reliance is Yukino, considering it is something that Haruno and Hayama constantly criticize her for.
Or it could be "Monster of Reliance" as in someone that is relied on.
>Plus I doubt Hayama is aware of the "genuine thing" 8man was talking about that is referenced.
Why does he need to be aware of that? The two are similar, it's just convergent thinking.
>The Tyrant King in the memorandums seems to be an obvious description of 8man, and the way the narrator is describing him makes it pretty clear that Yukino is the narrator.
Yukino's feelings towards him are more admiration than sympathy.

Aside from the tiny segment you pointed out earlier, literally nothing else in the memorandum matches Hayama. The genuine thing is too specific to be a matter of similiar thought processes, and a lot of the descriptions of the Tyrant King (Obviously supposed to be the Monster of Logic in the story) make mention of things Hayama would have no idea of.

The 2nd memorandum matches Hayama's personality much more than this one did. Plus the memorandum is written using "Watashi", which Hayama does not use when speaking.
>>
>>119115821
Vol 11 is not even released yet what are you even talking about.
>>
>>119117318
you have a point. he also have a point .
this is why all 3 memorandums titles itself mention that these words can be said by anyone.
mem3 looks more by yukino and reliance part can be taken in both ways
All memorandums fit with all main characters
>>
>>119117201
I thought it was 8man making a comment on how Hayama wouldn't let any girl get close to him, and warning Miura about what she was in for if she decided to pursue him romantically.

Though it could be a reference to Iroha, but then again I don't know what Miura's retort would mean in that case.
>>
>>119116964
Hayama and Hachiman's bromance to stronk,

Sure, though my translation aren't that great anyway.

Panel 1
Iroha: Say, not like it really matters to me, but what kind of girls do you like/what kind of girls are your type, Senpai?
Hachiman: Nurturing ones.

Panel 2
Iroha: Huhhh... do you mean like a mom or something? Senpai is a real mother-con huh.
Hachiman: Uh, that's not really what I meant...
Yui: That's right!

Panel 3
Yui: Hikki likes girls who're overflowing with motherliness! (is there a better word for this?)
I can't read the first kanji in Yui's second bubble. I think it might be chest but I'm sleepy and don't want to look it up.

Hachiman: Th-that's not really it.

Panel 4:
Iroha: *Grumbling* Mrgrgrgr.
Yukinon: Yuigahama-san! What have we done to make you hate us!
Yui: Yukinon!?

I'll check over my translations in the morning. The rough translations got most of it though and I'm not really confident in the way I handled everything else. Oh well.
>>
>>119117849
Panel 3:
He is alway looking at my chest

>大変だぞ、アレの相手は
>そういう、なに・・・めんどいのも含めて、さ

I don't know what in particular Hachiman was talking about either, but I think splitting Miura's reply into two separate lines loses a bit of nuance. I'd translate it as something more like "it's (he's) fine after all, troublesome parts included".

>>119117604
>Aside from the tiny segment you pointed out earlier, literally nothing else in the memorandum matches Hayama. The genuine thing is too specific to be a matter of similiar thought processes, and a lot of the descriptions of the Tyrant King (Obviously supposed to be the Monster of Logic in the story) make mention of things Hayama would have no idea of.
Yukino isn't even aware that she relies on people. Literally nothing in any of the memorandums fits her, let alone the third memorandum. The only link is the word "genuine", and that's a very tenuous connection. The Tyrant King doesn't necessarily refer to Hachiman, even if he's similar.
>The 2nd memorandum matches Hayama's personality much more than this one did. Plus the memorandum is written using "Watashi", which Hayama does not use when speaking.
Watashi is a formal, gender-neutral pronoun that anyone can use. The memorandums are written in de-aru form, used for written works like essays and stuff - no one uses that when speaking. The memorandums are specifically written in this very neutral style, completely removed of any identifying patterns. You can't use the writing style as a refutation.
