I just find HF to be the best because of how well it matches up to F/Z.
The actual evil and motives of the grail aren't fully explained in the other routes. And with the ending of F/Z, I find HF to make the most sense.
I guess Ufotable could easily fix this by adding some extra dialogue to UBW.
This is coming from a filthy secondary who watched F/Z first and then read the VN though.

HF pacing is roughly the same as UBW(and a lot better than Fate), it's just that the same people who moan any time RIn/Shirou romance gets screen time over action also complain the four cooking scenes in HF.
The final is also the final of the entier VNs worth of build-up so it gets remembered as a lot stronger than the rest of the route but there isn't a time in HF where somehting interesting or foreboding isn't happening even if it's just reveals that are spoiled in Zero.

I just reread HF, that's why I know all the faggots bitching about the pacing of HF have no clue what they're talking about. UBW concentrates almost all it's action into the last few days. HF has a bunch of action in the beginning, cools down a bit towards the end, and then finishes with a bunch of action.
Just look at all the events that occur in the first couple of days of HF with UBW. By the end of day 6, Caster, Fake Assassin, and Lancer are already dead in HF.
