The Storyline was good. How many anime do you watch about a dude trying to save an amusement park with a cast full of fantasy-like characters. Very creative. The soundtrack was amazing. As a new brass player you're going to sound like shit for a lot of time. Some people are going to sound like shit forever.
Playing the piano, it's much easier to get some decent sounds out of it. When it comes to mastery, both might be hard, but the point where you start to sound decently is much earlier reached while playing piano.

You're comparing apples to oranges; playing notes and scales is obviously going to be easier on the piano, since the actual mechanism of key is eaier to deal with, but playing pieces, playing compositions is not even remotely similar in difficulty.
Playing piano requires more ability (not as in 'better'), but MORE. You need to play the right notes, at the right tempo and volume, which the trumpet does, but you also need to play with both hands, worry about chords, articulation, key signatures, pedal, very frequent changes in pitch, etc. There is just more involved. Try playing a polyphonic piece on a trumpet.

It is still a lot less physical. It's more mental than physical work. You can easily practice a piano piece over and over and at some point it's going to sound decent.
Playing a brass instrument piece over and over is going to strain you physically, chances are you're going to sound worse over time rather than better. Progress is made much slower. The entry level hurdle is higher.
Again, we're not talking about mastery here, we're going about getting to a level where you don't sound like complete shit. And that stage is much earlier reached playing the piano.

I like the anime designs too. But it does feel like something is lost in translation.
I like both Omae's chara design in the novel and the anime, but the latter reminds me quite a bit of Haruhi. At least the fluffiness carried over and she is still best girl regardless.
