For one thing, he didn't get mad to defeat his enemies. He got mad in general and was slowly losing himself to the demon within. For another, it also never made him as strong as the Berserker armor does. He's struggling now, but that's because his enemies are larger and stronger than ever.
He's still about to lose his mind, and that's a major drawback of the armor. Either they fix that, or he's going to die or worse.

The berserker armor is dwarf armor only intended to be worn by dwarves and like the witch stated, it was a popular mass produced armor for the dwarves.
Berserk armor feels like shit for Guts to wear because of this.

Or get a non-beserk dwarf armor.
I highly doubt Dwarf generals or their lords would wear berserker armor because generals have to kinda remain sane during battle so only dwarves in the front line would likely wear berserker armor.
The dwarf generals likely wore even better armor compared to the berserker armors with none of the side effects.
With that said, since the dwarves possess this level of craftsmanship, its strange how we didn't see any dwarves wreck any apostle who dares to fuck around in their territory.

I can understand where they're coming from. Before guts had to just use his own quick thinking, reflexes and strength to defeat enemies. But with the armor it feels like he's using a crutch and it makes the fights seem less high stakes.
On the other hand, Guts probably wouldn't be able to defeat newer enemies without it, and the armor is slowly killing him, making him blind and could drive him to insanity. I think it's a good balance, it's not just a straight power up.

The armor was added to give The Beast an edge over guts' affection for his growing party, and to allow guts to defeat the ever stronger enemies.
It also allows his internal conflict to begin to mean something to the rest of the party, which is important when you recall Guts' Behelit. Berserk is now about how guts is torn between the revenge and anger which has allowed him to survive, or to stay with his new comrades.

I agree that I preferred the idea of Guts surviving fights by the skin of his teeth, but with how powerful the apostles are now it'd start stretching many peoples suspension of disbelief that he can still beat them.
I don't see it as that much of a DBZ power up, and while we may not get to see the side effects of the berserker armour in their most dire form, the very fact that these possibilities exist really gives a sense of weight and importance to each time Guts decides let himself be consumed a little more by it.

Guts was raped and they were still able to have sex, even if it was painfully awkward. He might be able to get through to her because he's the only other named character to be raped, so he might know what she will most likely go through. I don't think the armour itself is bad, it's just handled poorly in the story. When Guts first used it, his hair got white and we were told that every time he uses this armour he becomes less humane. Isidro looks up to Guts as a role model and mentor which is something he may not even have had during Golden Age. And for the first time Guts has taken someone under his wing and trained them.
Schierke has tonnes of purpose in the group. She's the one with expertise in the astral world and arguably a closer ally to Guts than Golden Age Griffith. Right now she's the only ally actively helping Guts subdue the beast of darkness.
And Farnese and Serpico are the only members with the potential to split off from the group or worse, actually turn around and challenge Guts (though this is more likely Serpico considering Farnese's new developments). They add tension to the group, especially considering they're only there to cure Casca and we don't know how they'll react to meeting Griffith AND finding out Guts is planning to kill him.
