I honestly did want to see how Araragi would develop without Snail. He's very dependent on her and her role would have to either be deferred to someone or Araragi himself would change a great deal.

I don't know about Snake being that interesting. Yes she plays a very overt role by trying to kill Araragi, but in terms of how she plays into the themes and subtext of the series, or the complexity of her relationships with the other characters, she's very low on the spectrum.
I'd say she's easily the least significant among the primary Monogatari heroines.
