Chu2 was KyoAni label LN, in fact, written by someone from their staff (not any of key persons).

So yeah, they could use it whatever they wanted same way as Marvel can use heroes whatever they like.

Meanwhile, Amagi is Kadokawa, KyoAni is just adapting it and has limited artistical freedom (more than usualy since Gatoh basically works half-time for KyoAni and is involved as author, but still limited by Kadokawa)

Currently? Because they are adapting own label LNs, and there are no really good LNs on their label yet. So they have to pick up whatever they have and milk it for money. Not much choice. its still better than adapting others staff financial wise.

They also tried "original" with Munto, failed hard MULTIPLE times, so are cautious now.

They have lot of creativity in their adaptations and random stuff they do - just no person able to really create a new fantastic franchize from scap.

Gotoh is the nearest to "good writer" KyoAni has, and he is under Kadokawa and just helps them out doign series composition and scripts.
