What are some things in anime that just evoke a chuckle when they're trying to be dramatic or serious?
Whether it's because of weird dialogue, sketchy translations or just odd body language?
Pic related for me, whenever this pose pops up in anime or manga, that awkward "spread arms and legs out to protect or stop something" like the guy's trying to scare off a bear.
Is that something Japanese people do? It seems like something an autistic alien would think up if you wanted them to describe human body language.

The huge majority of anime is cheap shit produced in studios that pay only a few yen more than your average sweatshop, if any.
As the cheap shit it is, it has to find as many shortcuts as possible. One of these shortcuts is establishing standard poses that any Korean monkey can draw. This way you say "This character is expressing [thing]" without actually showing or saying anything.

Most modern anime, especially ones featuring high school students, is either unintentionally hilarious due to their attempts of conveying dramatic events realistically or causes me to cringe for presuming people will see it as such.
I have no idea what's happening in the anime industry, but it just seems subtlety found in older shows like LoGH or Texhnolyze just isn’t common as it is now. Almost everything in anime has to be exactly explained to the audience, emotions are exaggerated and even directly stated instead of just expressed realistically.
I guessed that’s why I find myself reading and watching more live action TV shows more recently, because they can’t resort to stereotypical emotional reactions or archetypes that the anime industry seems to be content with.
