I used to be a huge supporter of fansubs because they offered the highest quality video, softsubs, subbed karaokes, and at times better translations. but Im almost at the point where Im just going to get HS releases from now on because Im tired of waiting weeks and weeks for shit to be released when HS does so instantly.

College finals and the episode being super TS heavy
Most people are content with Crunchy Roll rips and they come out WAY quicker than any speedsub could ever come out.
So unless if Crunchy Roll botches up the translation a lot (like how they did with Steins;Gate, prompting WhyNot to save the series) then I doubt we'll ever see Fansubbing return to popularity.
The only issue I have is that there's a larger chance of shows not being subbed at all if they don't get picked up by Crunchy Roll or Funi.

Video quality from CR is generally fine. You might see some more banding than the other raws, but it's usually par for the course. It's the Funi releases that have washed out colors and really funky bitrates. I find it actually offensive to watch Funimation releases.

Fansubs are memesubs. Crunchyroll and Funimation offer a paid service so they cannot get away with adding memes in their subs without outrage. Meanwhile shitty groups like Commie trollsub and memesub nearly every show they can. A good example is Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu from this season. Since there are no CR subs, one of the only groups doing it is Commie, and 99% of the subs are memes or troll.

There are more groups than expected. It's just that not all of them come out to do something every season.

Commie has added quite a few le edgy memes into the subs for this, but it's still quite a bit more bearable than what gg did to Hidan no Aria.
