Yuki-chan honestly isn't very good and I don't think Haruhi is still popular enough that a mediocre spin-off that barely has anything in common with the original series will do that well/

there are other, more important factors to go into a potential season 3, which prevent it from being made. I think the hope that Yuki-chan could possibly lead to a season 3 is very naive. Probably not. The only way it could is if the author decided to return to writing the light novel series at around the same time that the Disappearance of Yuki anime started airing.
If their were a sudden resurgent interest in the light novels and if the Yuki anime does well, maybe they'd want to greenlight a season 3 for Haruhi or at least another movie.

I understand all of the legal and economic reasons why there will not be a season 3, but with such an immensely successful franchise as Haruhi, you would think they would try to find some ways around those reasons. I just seems to me that they're not even trying.
Here in America huge cash-cow franchises don't just sit on the shelf collecting dust. If there are legal set backs then they'll find a way around them, they'll re-negotiate contracts, reach compromises, buy copyrights, whatever it takes. If there are economic short comings then they'll rearrange their finances, find sponsors, acquire investors, ADVERTISE, it really doesn't matter where the money comes from as long as they know they'll make that money back.
Say what you will about 'murican industrial movie-making, at least our entertainment industry knows how to get shit done.
At this rate, we're more likely to get a westernized live action adaptation before a season 3.
