The thing you have to understand though is that Archer was basically breaking that point; both mentally and physically. Like, he couldn't actually do shit to stop Shinji, since he was in no place to stop Gil, and more importantly, it would fuck up his plan to kill Shirou.
He was obsessed at that point. He tried warning him, he tried threatening him, but no matter what he did he couldn't get Shirou to back down from his ideal, which was screwing with his already unstable psyche. He's faced countless horrors being a counter guardian, and here's his younger self, in his mind, walking down the exact same path, and nothing he was doing was diverting him away from it. It was maddening.
