Probably Newtype before Aniplex bought the bulk of their popularity lists and page space for advertising shit. Honestly I just can't get over how much better and more interesting anime was before they pretty much took over. It doesn't even feel like anything even really belongs to the fans anymore, it's all about Aniplex and the reality and popularity they dictate. I can't remember exactly when I realized it myself, but even more so I can't realize I didn't put two and two together on what was happening before now.
Mark my words that will be the legacy of the 2010's when it comes to anime is Aniplex's bullshit.
