I've never really liked Kohaku or her route that much. I don't see why there's so much hype behind it.
They kinda messed up the Berserker fight, when Archer launches Caladbolg II (the nuke shot) Berserker notices that it's a big threat and blocks it. In the VN Saber wasn't able to do any damage and yet in the anime she does, killing him once and then they skip or poorly show Berserker blocking Archer's shot. Illya saying "I'm not interested in Saber anymore but I'm now interested in Archer" made sense in the VN because Berserker never sees Saber but instead Archer as a threat. Meanwhile in the adaptation Berserker clearly grabs Saber's sword just as she kills him and they don't bother showing him blocking Archer's arrow, making Illya's line here nonsensical.
Basically, Saber wanking kills the adaptation.

F/Z is good because the characters, even if lacking in depth beyond the simple "high-ranking arrogant dude" or "dude going insane for love," all work very well together to create something interesting. I've heard F/Z called an action movie (more as a detraction than complement) which I'd say is pretty accurate. It's a very good action movie.
Even as someone that dislikes the VN I think the direction of this adaptation is pretty poor. It's definitely missing the dream/flashback scenes, especially ones for a big reveal later on. I wish they would also find some way to fit some of Shirou's internal thoughts into the show. I still don't think he's a good character, but he would at least come off as less boring and uninteresting as he appears.
I also think that since they're skipping the Fate route (for good reason) they should find the time to go into some of Saber's backstory if only to make her a more interesting character. I don't think there's really much to her character in this route otherwise (that I remember) .

She's a bad choice for 1st time PT. Once you beat up on the monsters enough times their matrix will unlock more and more, and that information transfers over during new PT. F/E is worth playing for all 3 Servants, if you DO plan to go through it multiple times Caster is recommended for last just so you can see enemies' every move from the matrix data you got through previous playthroughs.

And even if she didn't get kidnapped because she has the title of heiress, she has to rebuild a screwed up family from generation one. He gave her more problems yo live through then Rin would ever have to deal with ever, because he didn't think wisely about having more than one kid. Besides, he ends up taking Kirei as an apprentice, so the rule about teaching only the heir was thrown out the window.
The rule was that more than one child cannot take on the family magic, so one is either taken out or sealed if they don't have their own crest but are powerful enough. Tokiomi made neither preparations for the possibility, nor fully investigated the Matous before accepting the adoption.
Besides, Sakura herself trains herself and deals with her handicaps in her own way, so despite Tokiomi being dumb, she makes it, so she deserves praise. Most people would have been catatonic with what she went through.
