You can tell that the staff really liked Madoka but it still does it's own thing. The prequel novel has deaths and a decent amount of suffering but nothing of that has reached the anime yet.
The production values are great in my opinion, the "other world" has lot's of interesting angles and the transformations and fights are nicely done but nothing serious happening so far.
Everyone keeps on expecting suffering but it's just the studio baiting hard so far.
Episode 1 was the best with episode 2 a close second, it does not hold it's level though.
The CGI looks damn fine if you're not completely autistic, in fact it looks great in fast moving action scenes.
Also, there are some small fan service shots each episode but they're mostly tasteful except for cripple-chans titty transformation.
