ADV used to do lots of unique and interesting packaging for stuff and had lots of extras on the discs. What I've seen from Sentai has been bare-bones and generic in its presentation.And Sentai's dubs have been consistently horrible. At least ADV managed to make SOME that were passable.
And the only thing I can think of from CPM at all is the original three Slayers seasons. Which I got in box sets for just under 30 bucks each. Which is a whole lot better than Funi's releases, which have been asking 35-40 and up for just 13 episodes.

I was in college that year and was used to torrenting the Naruto fansubs. I remember being pretty stoked when it was announced that it got licensed for US distribution and dubbing. As in, calling people just to tell them.
When the dub started airing I knew it was supposed to be a kids show, and wondered if US kids would actually pick up on it. Hearing from you gives me a weird sense of coming full circle
I was watching Kimi ga nozomu eien, thought it was just your average romance anime and then episode 2 or 3 hit and everything changed. I was very moved by it back then, but now it seems kind of lame. The opening theme is very good and I still listen to it from time to time.

I was in 6th grade at the time, so I remember hyping it with my friends. We discussed the new episodes every day as they aired during lunch. I remember telling them about fansubs and writing down website URLs for them. Later on, I imported the Naruto GC game (GNT4) and spent my entire middle school life playing that every weekend at my cousin's house.
Back on topic, I guess I watched a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh! at that time. I still don't think the dub is that bad; it's just shit.
