Why do people say the manga is better than the anime?
I read up to Ch.60 (where the anime ended), and aside from the censorship, the anime was much better, especially the torture scene and his transformation in his head. Much more dramatic and impactful. Kaneki's VA wasn't half bad.

If there's one thing the Anime pulled off great it was the voice acting in general. Also, Episode 1 was great as fuck too. I kinda like the Amon/Kaneki fight in the anime as well.
Something felt off with the Gourmet episodes though, like it made Ken look like a dumbass for just charging in there alone, along with the other missed details like his training with Touka and Yomo and shit like that.

One of the big things which the anime lacked was detailing character growth for Kaneki. During the manga, you saw much earlier his attempts to change to not "stand by and do nothing".
One example which stands out is the Ghoul Restaurant arc. In the manga, Kaneki didn't walk blindly into an obviously bad situation. He went in order to get information for Itori in exchange for information about Rize.
Furthermore, he didn't run away from Toro-chan, but fought back and even broke his arm utilizing his training with Touka (which was essentially ignored in the anime) and the knowledge acquired from reading his books.
There are plenty more examples and not just ones which apply to Kaneki. It's not shit, but the adaptation made many changes which people feel are for the worse.

When the anime and manga ended on the same day, my thoughts drifted towards that very idea.
Even if it turns out not to be a ruse, it's still been one hell of a sales boost which I'm sure Ishida and YJ both appreciate.
