Go to your chinese supermarket and look in the frozen section. There's tons of importated japanese goods if you live in a large city.
At home I make mentsuyu using 1/4cup soy sauce 1/4 mirin, 2tbsp katsuobushi and 1/2 cup water or konbu dashi. Sometimes with extra sugar or salt to use a glaze.

It's an obscure reference at best, but I tried oyakodon after Sana called Hayama's family "Oyakodon-bakas". Shit's pretty damn good. It's basically rice with a fried egg and breaded chicken cutlets on top. The egg gets all gooey and sort of melts into the rice so it's all chewy and sweet.

Here they sell a mass-manufactured version called ham-pao
They look the same, if a bit raggedy, but the taste isn't bad at all.
Basically the outside white dough is tasteless with a sort of doughy texture but the inside is bursting with pork and gravy.
The tastelessness of the bread goes well with the strong taste of the gravy. Some people just buy them and tear them up in a bowl so that the dough gets mixed with the pork flavor right away.
