Is there such a thing as a movie based on an anime that is actually good? Because I've never seen one. They're always terrible and cheesy as hell.

I seriously can't name one single one that has been good.
>>
Japanese movies in general always seem to be shot poorly and are usually cheesy as hell.

So,

no.

I thought Dororo was pretty entertaining despite the terribad CG.
I haven't read the manga though so I can't speak for the quality of the adaptation.

Casshern. Yes of course it's style over substance, but what fucking style! Distilled dystopia with essence of epilepsy. I saw it years ago and still can't get the battle scenes out of my head.

We can discuss the current state of the japanese movie industry and compare it with the south korean one but fuck nigger there is a line one shouldn't no can't cross and that is "chinks make the best east asian movies". No /tv/ needed since they apparently don't even care about asian movies.

Japanese B-films are like any other B-films, shit at their worst and so bad it's good at their best. The fact that manga only get adapted into B-films and not decent big budget films is the issue. The fact that /a/'s a bunch of weeaboos that only ever watch shitty pop titles doesn't help. Though Japan has some weird issues with making decent action films even at big budget levels so that never really changes. Plenty are still fun to watch but America and China do both visceral and romantic extremes of the genre infinitely better. Korea does some fantastically pulpy stuff that mixes the best of both though, not least of which happens to be Oldboy, which is based on the Tsuchiya/Minegishi manga.
>>
>>113429055
Nigger you posted one movie and now you're telling us that the chinks make the best movies? Look at some well known classics from Japan and South Korea and you'll realize that you're wrong. This isn't even about that particular movie or about the chinks not making a few good movies but saying that they're the best in Asia is fucking retarded.

I always through the Death Note live action was decent in comparison to the anime, as they ended it with L rather than going on and on and on with it.

Admittedly through, it's only good in comparison to the anime. It's still pretty bad on it's own.
>>
>>113429507
Was just about to post this. I don't like how they started it, but the ending and the part where he kills the female former FBI agent were much better than in the anime/manga.
>>
>>113429564
>kills the female former FBI agent
I've never watch the live action version and hate Death Note but I thought that particular part was the best of the whole show.
>>
Beck was excellent. Crows Zero is pretty great. I liked Rurouni Kenshin way more than I thought I would.
>>
so how was the rurouni kenshin movie
>>
>113429639
Easily. And it was the one part of the manga they legit improved upon when animating. The manga passed the whole event by too quickly, the anime made it dramatic and gave that final moment of suspense where he checks to make sure the note worked on her a lot more punch.

I remember watching Another movie after I marathoned the anime. I couldn't stomach more than 30 minutes of it. No one looked like the characters they were supposed to.
My biggest issue are Japanese movies chose anime where characters have colorful or really long hair, but don't give the actors wigs or anything. They all have the same boring black hair and I can't tell anyone apart.

The Drifting Classroom has an American adaption from 1995. It doesn't look too good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImLwtlDSb7U
>>
>>113431592
I read that a few years ago since it's one of Junji Ito's inspirations for most of his work. I won't even bother with the movie trash
That sucks considering it could of been a good movie if actually written well. Why would America even take it? they have some dumb rule about never seeing kids in violent situations and that entire manga is about children killing each other... Makes no damn sense

>>
>>113433159
I'll check it out. Thanks
>>
>>113433005
Have to agree with this, really good.
>>
A lot of live action Japanese works are pretty cheesy due to the lower production values compared to American shows.

Not to say there aren't some great films but in general, they just don't put that much money into them.
>>
>>113434835
Lower production values don't imply cheesiness. It has to do more with the artistic vision that they're striving for, and the nature of mainstream cinema which will allow for sales.
>>
>>113431814
It wasn't really American, it was a Japanese film directed by the guy who made House/Hausu and they got a bunch of American children from military families stationed in Japan to perform in it

There's a blog somewhere on the internet where a guy that was a kid who was picked for it explains
>>
The Korean version of Antique Bakery was really good. N-no homo
>>
>>113434835
I saw Akibaranger a while back and saw first ep of Blue Blazes last night. I found they both (and I'm assuming this is the case with all modern japanese drama/comedy television/film) try to emulate an anime style. In the over-the-top and exaggerated expressions, yelling and what have you. It gets kind of annoying when not done well. Akibaranger was able to pull it off because Akagi was based as fuck. But MC of Blue Blazes is a fucking faggot and sounds like an autist when he does it.
>>
Detroit Metal City
>>
>>113436377
Why pick American kids though? that seems to defeat the impact of the story in my opinion
>>
>>113427996
Holy shit, I had no idea this existed
>>
>>113424928
The Detroit metal city movie is pretty good. It's just like the anime just condensed down into a movie.
>>
>>113424928
Death Note actually was decent and it does an alternate end than the manga which was refreshing. Same for DMC it was actually quite funny and tried to follow the manga/anime as faithful as it can.
>>
>>113439153
How did the movie end it? I never bothered to watch past the first one. Tatsuya was an awful choice actor for Light.
>>
>>113439084
It didn't have a single rape joke in it and the whole thing turned incredibly sappy near the end.

I've seen some really good manga live action adaptations. Like others have said before though, Japan just makes due with whatever they got.

Iryu is fun, although the live action takes on a life of its own and doesn't really follow the manga, characters are changed, etc.

Shinya Shokudo is a nice comfy show based on a comfy manga.

Nobunaga no Chef is pretty interesting.

Dragon Zakura and Rookies are your typical high school delinquent stories, filled with troubles, problem children, and unconventional teachers.

Rivers Edge Detective Agency is a quirky detective show with a lot of interesting flare to it.
