Are all Light novels this bad? I kinda got my interest Piqued after all the adaptations coming out recently so took a crack at Pic related and good god this is bad.

now, I read this for like 3 chapters or so and i actually liked how they handed the whole trapped in another world thing It might just be because I actually read books but i just couldnt handle how amateurish and simplistic it felt, its sorta given me a bad impression. Does it get any better? is there anything with more Substance?

it is a web light novel.
you are supposed to enjoy it's simplistic feel.
as far as light novels go, MT can be considered quite in depth.
if you did not enjoy MT, then that may be due to either personal preference, or a general distaste for the majority of japanese LN's.
these things cannot be helped.
on the bright side, if you do not like it, you do not need to read it. things will progress as they have whether or not you participate in reading MT.

I do have to admit though. Chapter 127 was fairly lackluster, given how extensive the previous focus was. I expected more, given the focus of chapter 127.

MT had its plot just meander around for two volumes. The main plot actually begins on Vol 3 while the first 2 volumes only set up everything. At least read the first 3 to 5 volumes before making any real judgements on MT.

>>
>>112385199
I personally think Mushoku Tensei is one of the best LNs I've ever read. Characters develop. Powers develop. Relationships develop. MC isn't overly beta, isn't overly dense, still has weak points. People die. People have children. Your favorite girl probably wins. etc.

MT is a webnovel adapted into a LN. Being the crazy and glorious bastard he is, the author has decided not to take down the chapters he has on the website. What's more, he's still churning out 1 volume every month and releasing them on the site. I guess that's the difference between working for money and working because you enjoy it.

So another question before I move forward, is it implied at the end of volume 2 that Rudeus created the mana calamity and the subsequent mass teleportation? It seems a bit bizarre and random to be quite honest how a saint-level spell that was to make a storm created something totally different.

mana calamity was actually caused by farts.
there was a god who ate so many farts. Then one day, all the farts he ate suddenly burst out. there was a lighter present.

presto. magic ball of light and mana calamity and people got blown to different parts of the world due to magical flaming farts.

just read the story and stop asking questions. you're just asking to be spoilered. what kind of guy "who actually reads books," would ask for spoilers?

do you actually read books or ask people for summaries?

>>112385985

>>112386058

It was implied that he played a role in causing the calamity. For example, how he noted his mana was depleted in the beginning of volume 3. His mana was probably one of the factors that caused the teleportation. The true mastermind is still unknown.
>>
>>112386244

It's a small point that was bugging me for a while. I don't like big spoilers, but I felt no harm in learning about this particular spoiler. I could read on but it's late and it is stuck on my mind right now so I wanted to know before I went to sleep, that's all.

I just felt like the author just kept introducing more and more random plot developments out of nowhere. It went from "School for Agents" to "Battle against (pretty much) monsters with random bullshit powers" ridiculously quickly.

Also, their relationship hasn't really progressed that much and neither have the two characters actually developed that much.

Of course, I dropped this after the "This is not the end, only the beginning" note that the author gave so I my opinion might not be 100% correct.

>>
>>112387724
No, the LN is on a long hiatus too IIRC because the publishers went super-Jew and demanded the artist to do 100 illustrations in a month or something. It's probably possible to just scrape the webnovel off of narou using the wayback machine though.

Besides LNs almost always being better than the anime; the anime skipped over a couple of scenes.

>>112388245
But then I wouldn't have been able to read what happened after the anime ended. Also the LN you're translating is fucking deep-- you do a good job at still giving us the ability to read between the lines.

Because Koreans took the worst aspects from America (capitalism on crack + R&B culture), the worst aspects from Japan (corporate culture on crack), and combined them along with growing insecurities of China's growing power into what they proudly call Korean culture. Also they promote leg fetish which is a redeeming trait.

It's on the level of a child's fantasy novel, with young adult levels of "mature" content. It compares poorly with, say, Artemis Fowl or the Abhorsen Trilogy or anything by Diana Wynne Jones.

It's just... it's not really very good. It's pretty solid for fanfiction - translated fanfiction, at that - but that doesn't mean it's actually /good/.

Why does it always have to be "random useless guy dies and wakes up in world X as character Y", "random useless guy start playing a virtual reality game as character Y in world X" or something along those lines?
Why not just cut the crap and have the main character be a native of the world the LN is set in?

No self respecting anon would own an deviantart account, so /a/ really can't claim much for how fast MT got translated.
>>
>>112388593
Because it easier to relate with the MC, making the developments more interesting. By easier to relate, I don't mean as a self insert, but that your knowledge of the setting is on the same wavelength as the MC. whatever he's experiencing in the world is first time just like it is to you. It provokes the reader to have more thoughts like "What would I do if I am in MC's position?"
>>
>>112389815
I'm sure. Even js06 has to spend two weeks for a volume of Index. But then again, he's also working on Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon.

Not entirely true seeing as the MC was summoned into that world. Of course, he's pretty much a native now seeing as he was only a kid when he was summoned.

Not the anon you were responding to, but I actually kind of liked Garth Nix. Also, I'm fairly certain the Abhorsen is at least young adult, not children seeing as they have implied sex and stuff in there if I remember right.

Artemis Fowl is children's but I do agree that the series got progressively worse.

Fuck Viz for Shakugan no Shana.
But at least Yen Press still allowed New Testament Index to continue translations even though they picked up the 22 volumes of the Old Testament.
>>
>>112390402
Not necessarily because it might take years for them to catch up to the LNs if at all. Some companies don't play catch-up and release translations at the same pace/slower than the release of the actual novels. Even then, it'll usually at least a couple of years until the entirety of an already unofficially translated novel becomes released by the translation companies.
>>
>>112390538

3 days should be the start of ch20.
