Hey /a/, do you enjoy romance manga/anime which aren't a harem?
I really enjoy them from time to time, it gives me warm and fuzzy feelings.
>>
Haremshit a shit.

I've been on a fluffy romance binge lately, myself. Shame most of the stuff I haven't already read only has a couple chapters out on average.

I dropped Horimiya, though.
>>
I enjoy shoujo romcoms mostly for the comedy, I don't like tragedy and serious drama so I tend to stay away from stuff that is not tagged as comedy.
>>
>>111431873
I'll do the same, I'll read a bunch of romance manga, watch some romance anime, and then I'll completely stop for a while.
I think I'll start Sankarea today.
>>
>>111431933
This too, romance comedy is the best.
I like watching happy couples being happy without too much drama involved, although I'll make an exception sometimes.
Have you guys read Bonnouji or Tasogare Otome?
>>
>>111431739
I hate harems. I like it when 1 person loves another person and there's no problems whatsoever.
>Tfw barely any anime like that with tsunderes in it.

Comic Studio is the best I've read.
>>
>>111431995

Bonnouji is the comfiest manga I've read.
>>
>>111432056
...do you not read much manga or something? Because frankly Comic Studio is pretty horrible.
>>
>>111432056
Main girl in B Gata H Kei is kind of a tsundere.
>>
>>111432109
I loved Bonnouji.
>>
>>111432144
I read a decent amount. I loved Comic Studio. I read it because it was cute and the chick was kind of a tsundere. I also enjoyed the art.
In romance manga, I don't care about plot or anything like that.
>>
>>111432109
>>111432152
Bonnouji really was great, both characters were extremely likeable.
If you guys like romance without having a harem involved, you should read China Girl, Molester Man and Jigokuren.
>>
>>111432151

>300 chapters
>>
>>111432195
No, I mean... the art is "cute" but clumsily drawn, the character relationships are cliched and have been executed before much better in dozens of other series, and I couldn't shake the feeling I was reading a weird alternate universe Lucky Channel doujinshi(and I'd still like to know whether that was intentional, because if it wasn't I have no idea how the mangaka got away with it).
>>
>>111432326
It's a 4koma and the chapters are short.
>>
>>111432387
You got any good suggestions containing...
Not a harem
Tsunderes?
>>
Horimiya is nice, Nijiiro Days, Bonnouji, Suzuki-san and Komori-san ga Kotowarenai (from vol 2) is good too.

The main relationship in Horimiya bored me to tears and I was only reading it for Sakura being best girl, so I ended up dropping it when a kind anon confirmed for me that in the end she loses to the FUCKING GODDAMN GENERIC "CHILDHOOD FRIEND WHO CAN'T BE HONEST WITH HER FEELINGS" CHARACTER DAMMIT FUCK YOU JAPAN THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS

Uh, yeah. You get the idea.
>>
>>111432595
Funny, I picked it up yesterday and finished it today.
It's a shame that the girl is going to die.
The bit where he was accused of being a pedophile made me rage
Also, it's weird knowing that a woman wrote a manga where the love interest is a boring otaku. Guess you have to do everything to get dem otaku bux.

Most likely.
And the manga even got an update yesterday!
>>
>>111432789

>>
>>111433502
The manga is based on a webcomic.
>>
>>111431739
Harems suck all the romance out of the story.

Shit moves slow enough when it's just 2 people, when it's 5 or 6, it's 90% fanservice, cockblocking and nothing, then the MC picks worst girl for no reason at the end.
>>
>>111432991

The premise is kind of stereotypical, but I really like how MC actually struggles hard to grow into his relationship. Too many manga falls into that trap, where a relationship would suddenly transform an otaku into someone popular, understanding, and handsome.
>>
>>111433763
I find it amazing that the girl is actually putting up with all of his awkwardness and mistakes.
But it's a manga, aimed at getting money out of the otaku audience, so it's only natural.
>>
>>111433853

Yeah, it's kind of weird that the girl takes a step back, lost all her bitchness, and just became a generic princess character. The character progression feels like an inversion of Horimiya in that way. Miya also suffered that kind of reversion and revert into a popular bishounen character.

The main reason I like harems is that there's a choice of girls with different personalities to like. Ideal harem is 3 people, anymore and it either drags like fuck or certain girls become irrelevant. The main problem I find in harems is that the story gets dragged out as long as the budget lasts. The author just bloats the manga with completely irrelevant stories until the budget runs out, and then ends with the shittiest open/harem end. There's very little sense of closure in a harem romance which is almost always present in a single romance.

The main problem with non harems is that if the main girl isn't likeable, then you're fucked.
>>
>>111434120
>lost all her bitchness, and just became a generic princess character

No, girls don't work that way.
She's still bitchy and rude to most people, but she opens up before her boyfriend.
She also got friends, so that probably changed her personality a bit.
>>
Talk of romance manga made me realize that it has been something like five months since the last scanlated chapter of Ore monogatari!! What's up with that?
>>
>>111431739

I really hate harem because the conclusion is basically irrelevant to the plot. All endings are inherently plausible in a harem. When you get every choice, you might as well have none.
>>
>>111434461
I don't usually enjoy harem but I'm having an absolute blast with Monster Girls.
>>
>>111434461
Is there any harem where all of the girls eventually find someone else than the harem lead to date? I'd like something like that.
>>
>>111432789
You serious!? FUCK.
>>
I don't like harems because of the chronic "S-S-S-SORRY, DON'T MISUNDERSTAND" situations there are. Is it so wrong for me to want to see a nice couple do sweet, couple things together? Pic not manga but still related.

>>111434388

>>111435088
I wonder how long it will take before we get actual romance. Instead of that weird half-assed relationship which absolutely would look like dating to any outsider observing it.
>>
>>111435170
At least they have curry.
>>
>>111434579
Well, otaku literally tore up books when they discover the girl has had prior relations, how do you think they'll react when the girl move on? Sometimes it works if the male partner is introduced from the early on, but remember that you don't have to be the main girl to be an object of obsession. Even in Love Hina where the main couple is hours away from marrying, the other girls are still planning to steal him away.
>>
>>111435312
That is something, it can't be denied. And they are cute the way they are, too. I will be more than a bit annoyed if they only get together in the last chapter, though.
>>
>>111435383
Man, otakus are fucking pathetic.
Now I understand Anno.

>>111435383
That kind of obsession with "purity" is something that really pisses me off. Not the fact that some people value it, as such, but the fact that it has such an influence on media I like. It's cancer, really.

>>

How is he being scum?

>>
>>111435797
More than a non-virgin girl though, what I want to see is the main guy actually having real, previous relationship with some other guy before. Most of the time when it happens it's just some girl he knows from the past, or a childhood friend obsessed with a promise made when they''re both still learning to write.

I have a soft spot for inexperienced MCs because it's so easy for me to relate to them but something like that would be cool, too. First love being the one true love is cute and all but it seems to be a bit too prevalent in romance anime and manga.
>>
>>111432450
I'd like to second this. Non harem + tsundere sounds like fun. I just read through what there of Bocchi na Bokura no Renai Jijou, which seemed pretty good.

I don't like that, for some reason when cute 2D women are acting like 3D ones, it makes them a thousand times more cruel and heartless than normal 3D women.
>>
>>111436741
Not really, you're talking as if he were planning how to steal her while he has sex with the cake. He isn't actually pursuing a relationship with the other girls and shows himself completely uncomfortable with his feelings when they're together.

Harem became boring to me once I realized that whatever girl on the cover of the first book will inevitably win. All of the love n-sided shape drama that comes after becomes boring.

Oh, that manga about a 30 year old virgin and his cupid who would give him relationship protips was also pretty nice.
There's no chance that a real life girl would have put up with all the fuck-ups that he made.
>>
>>111439467
>>111439560
You guys are definitely right. But the way I see it, right now it's kinda like an Amagami omnibus where we see at least see a few moments of a cute couples doing cute things...and that's all I need.
>>
Kanpeki na Kanojo
It is complete. Go read it.

No one is as soft as Yuko, but have you guys ever read Itoshi no Kana?
>>

>I told him that I prefer an otaku.
>That looks and age don't matter.
>That it should be someone who often comes to Akihabara.
>That someone who likes "I'm Gonna Be An Angel!" would be perfect.
>I said all that and it was so obvious that it could only be CanBadgeww And yet, he was like "Hmmm..." and seemed to be seriously going through his list of friends in his mind.

>"I know someone who's perfect.", he said.
>"I'll bring him here next weekw", he said.

Oh boy, the appearance of that femanon must have been really awful.
I mean, having standards this low and still having trouble to find a boyfriend really says a lot.
>>
Someone recommend me some good manga please. I don't like harems, and I don't mind but prefer to avoid ecchi. Mangas I enjoyed are ojojojo, 14 sai no Kai, yandere kanojo, horimiya (though it's main story is getting dull). I read a bit of 3D kanojo, but couldn't get into it.
>>
>>111439982
>implying you wouldn't do the same

But you should definitely keep reading.

I recommend you start off with the softest.

I will.
>>
>>111439141
I know right? The side characters aren't complete faggots either.
>>
What was the name of that manga about a guy and his socially retarded girlfriend?
I remember there was this one scene in it where she walked into his class and loudly said something along the lines of "MC-kun, let's go take a shit".
>>

A Method to Make the Gentle World
Itoshi no Karin
Evergreen
Ore ga Doutei wo Sutetara Shinu Ken ni Tsuite

>I know it's not a nice way to put it, but CanBadge is like a textbook example of an Akihabara otaku. His clothes, his hairstyle, everything about him screams otaku.
>He's the kind of guy that walks around with a huge tote bag with Key anime heroine can badges attached to it and wears a matching T-shirt with anime characters on it.
>I've never been one to care about looks, but for some reason, all my past boyfriends happened to be handsome, smartly dressed guys.
>I was thinking "First thing I'll do once we start
dating is go shopping with him to pick out clothes for him. I can't introduce him to my friends with him looking like this.".
>I know it was incredibly rude and conceited of me, but that's what was going through my head back then. orz

That's really nice of her, deciding to help a guy improve himself instead of just rejecting him straight away.

Updated yesterday.

>>111440473
Thanks anon, that's the one.
>>
>>111440119
Going through it now.
>>111438960
OH SHIT, I remember reading that manga a while ago, but then I caught up, and then completely forgot about it, because of its update schedule
>>111439060
Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki and Sakurasaku Shoukougun sound interesting, I really couldn't see the appeal of Nana to Kaoru (I hate worthless MCs that somehow get an apparently good girl). Other two are okay. I hate Mysterious Girlfriend X, and will probably go on a rant about how much I hate this fucking manga that spoiled a really good one shot by a story that literally goes nowhere.
>>
>>111440559
Have you read China Girl?
Molester Man is pretty good too.
>>
>>111440536
Let me rephrase that, Chapter 13 when?
>>
>>111440391
>Evergreen
I'm not sure how I feel about the most recent development, it seems a bit excessive to me.
I've liked the manga so far, so I really don't want to see it get really bogged down in DRAMA.
>>
>>111440820
I have no idea what I am feeling about it either, especially since the drama chapter was exactly what I wanted up until... that.
>>
>>111440613
Never heard of China Girl, but it looks REALLY interesting, will probably finish it all right now. Couldn't get into Molester Man, I felt the story moved a bit too slow, and the art work really turned me off.

>>111440391
Ore ga Doutei wo Sutetara Shinu Ken ni Tsuite sounds really interesting, I really like mangas that deal with going back in time to redo what they did I liked Again before I felt it turned to shit, so will check that out. Itoshi no Karin's overview seems really plain, could you sort of explain the story to me? I don't really like manga where the MC has is plain in every aspect, and somehow manages to get the most most popular girl in the school, since it always feels like selfinsert bait. Evergreen sounds cool, might check it out.
>>
>>111439407
Was this originally in jap or something?
>>
>>111439340
You'll like Horimiya then.
>>
>>111440915
Itoshi no Karin is really plain and really is a selfinsert bait, though an incredibly well-handled one. I normally don't like them either, but there's at least some potential in this one. If they handle it well, it could get amazing.
>>
>>111441009
Yeah some dude translated the thread.
>>
>>111440072
Also, though this might not be the thread for it, gay/lesbian/trap romances don't turn me off, if anyone can recommend me some good ones.
>>
>>111440900
That's what I'm saying.
The conflicts thus far had been fairly standard high school/teenager stuff, though executed quite nicely.
I feel like if the author isn't careful, things can go to shit very quickly. And not in the good way.
>>
>>111440072
Because it hasn't been recommended yet. I'll say Ore monogatari!!, which is both funny and cute and which everyone into romance should, in my opinion, give a try.
>>
Man, don't you just love it when you go to take a shit, and a huge log slides out almost instantly and without any effort. Then when you go to wipe yourself, the toilet paper is pretty much clean and doesn't have any traces of shit left on it.
It's at times like this when I truly feel that all is right with the world.
>>
>>111441667
Is this supposed to be a metaphor?
>>
>>111441278
When I read it, I did not even expect the manga to continue for more than 3-4 more chapters.

And that's not a good reaction.
>>
>>111441074
>really is a selfinsert bait

In all honesty, there's nothing wrong with enjoying stuff like that in moderation.
You know it's wish-fulfilment, but it feels good, so who cares?
>>
>>111439907
Nope, but I'm going to.
>>
>>111441853
Person who asked was not very fond of them, which is why I pointed it out.
I love them myself, even beyond consuming them in moderation.
>>
>>111439407
That story is getting interesting.
But boy, either jap women are fucking weird, or that femanon is pretty ugly. There's no other explanation as to why she's being so tolerant about a guy's weird quirks and has such low expectations.
>>
Have you guys tried Unbalance X Unbalance?
I enjoyed the characters and the plot, no harem-shit and the art is good.
>>
>>111440613
Okay, so just finished China Girl
What the fuck did I just read, holy shit, that ending was so rushed and forced and what the fuck man
>>
Is there anything else like 3D Kanojo? Where a beta guy goes out with the popular girl? The way the guy changes but somehow stays the same way is pretty nice.

Got into Hi Score Girl recently. Scans can't come out fast enough.

Hi Score Girl would be REALLY good if it wasn't for the art. Some people love it, but I seriously hate it. Everyone just looks so ugly, it is like Rugrats in manga form.

You mean shoujo.
>>
>>111442826
>>111442856
This. I grew to like it too. Especially the eyes. Also, once they get older the art sorta changes to less chibi-ish since they are no longer 3rd graders or whatever.
Anyway, as long as there is something I enjoy about a manga I can read it. Art is one of the least important aspects to me, but for this manga I find it unique and interesting to look at.
>>
>>111442710
There is some drama, but nothing quite as far as NTR.
In my opinion UxU is worth the read; just be prepared for an incredibly shitty ending to an otherwise quiet good romance story.
>>
>>111443269
>Art is one of the least important aspects to me

I'm the opposite.
That's why I can't stomach a lot of shoujo manga that's out there.

>>
>>111443396
Fuck, new chapter came yesterday too, updates can't come soon enough.
>>
>>111443429
Question, why is generic shoujo art a thing?
>>
>>111443429
See, I'm fine with stuff like 3D kanojo where you can tell that it's shoujo, but it's not too offensive on the eyes and doesn't have those exaggerated eyes and hands, together with girls who look like lifeless dolls.
>>
>>111443322
>>111443429

We're three now. That's why I can't stand some of the old shoujo manga and anime, and the new ones that seem to be going back to that Part of the reason I never really liked Sailor Moon
>>
>>111443463
We would need some hardcore expert /a/non to answer that one.
>>
>>111443596

Not an expert, but I assumes it refers to your shoujo where girls have huge eyes and huge legs and there's a lot of sparkles and flowers.
>>
>>111443378
>4 Koma.
Ugh. No idea why they are so popular as the paneling is so garbage. I do read plenty of them but on a computer with scrolling they are so annoying.
>>111443463
I have heard, and it seems believable that rather than practice drawing by copying their favorite manga rather than real life things. This is so obvious with things like hands. The best manga artists out there can also draw in the 3D realistic style instead of just anime characters.

And on that note, the generic shoujo style is better now than it used to be.
>>
>>111443399

More like Onnanoko ga Shinu Hanashi.
>>
>>111443678
>I have heard, and it seems believable that rather than practice drawing by becoming good artists, they practice off of their favorite manga.
I accidentally the sentence structure.

>>
>>111443463
I think it has something to do with the female brain.

I can instantly tell if a picture was drawn by a girl or not. There's always something off about the proportions. Male characters are usually tall and lanky, with extraordinarily large extremities.

This can't be a coincidence. I don't buy the theory in >>111443678; even when a female artist draws a shounen manga you find the very same anatomical discrepancies.
>>
Going on a romance manga binge always leaves me yearning for a real-life relationship with a girl.

>Couldn't get into Molester Man,
I started off slow at first

>>
>>111444325
I wish I had a girl like Kansai in my life.
>>
>>111444317
Most of the suffering mostly come from misunderstandings that get resolved in time and it's usually pointed towards Tsuntsun anyway. I just want more chapters pronto so I can see my happy ending God damn it.
>>
>>111444165
I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm usually very withdrawn, I feel comfortable spending time on my own, which is part though not all of the reason why I don't have much of a social life. Reading romance manga reminds me that oh yeah, I would in fact like having a romantic relationship.
>>
>>111444226
I think so too. It is scientifically confirmed that men are more "visual" when it comes to choosing sexual partners, due to that, it's only natural for them to include all the visual cues which turn them on in their art. When it comes to visual fetishes, breasts, feet, butts, zettai ryouiki, christmas cake, healthy, loli, etc. etc. etc. there are countless ones. This isn't nearly as pronounced when it comes to shoujo manga, where the characters are often very generic looking and mostly differ in terms of personality and choice of clothes. When it comes to visuals, you only often have tall and broad men with large hands. But otherwise it's visually really boring. Not nearly as varied as male oriented manga.

The manga goes much more in detail than the anime, has more arcs, and the ending is different.
Also, the circumstances of Yuuko's death are different.
I would say that the manga and the anime complement each other very well.
