What are you watching from before the year 2000 /a/?

The artwork in this show is just amazing.

It's a good show that ends on a strong note with a Nene episode, stick with it anon.

Priss and Nene are both my favourites and both are so deliciously hot too.

>>111297504

Trigun was a good show but they rushed a lot of the manga. I wouldn't mind it if they gave it the Hellsing Ultimate treatment.

Got about 15 episodes left of Rose of Versailles to go. I will watch eight episodes tonight and then the other 7 tomorrow I have been busy lately so I haven't been able to watch much. Fucking Andre man! How DARE he do that to poor Oscar.

Next choices for retro shows I watch, anons decide:
Aim for the Ace!
Ashita no Joe
Super Dimensional Fortress Macross
Gundam the 08th Team
Space Battleship Yamato
>>
Getting through Creamy Mami, Wolf Guy, Gao Gai Gar and Violence Gekiga David no Hoshi.

Currently watching Nadesico. It's great. I'm glad /a/ discussed it.
It had the weirdest recap episode I've seen in a long time, but I'm betting it'll make sense before the end of the series.

I disagree.
The last episode was good but it didn't even finish it's initial planned run because AIC and Youmex had a falling out.
Bubblegum Crash kinda wraps it up.
Despite it's lack of an ending Crisis is still one of my favorite shows ever.

The first two OVA's man...
>>
>>111299816
Those OVAs were baller.
>>
>>111299755

I forgot they planned on making more Bubblegum but then it got cancelled. So yeah, forget how I said it ends on a strong note but it does end with a decent episode focused on Nene.

I think that if they remade the show that today's animation just wouldn't do it absolute justice since a lot of the charm is in the 80s hand drawn style. Having it be computer generated would make the characters and everything else look ugly. I can imagine the Boomer ripping their skins off would look shit.

How is Crash? I have heard it's awful in every sense imaginable and the newer designs are a bit of an insult but it's only a couple episodes so I might just finish it off over the week sometime.
>>
Tokimeki Tonight
Kimagure Orange Road
SPT Layzner
Cutie Honey
Project A Ko

Sometimes I feel like I'm missing out because I don't ride the seasonal hype train. But I just love older anime so much more.
>>
>>111299860
Crash isn't awful but it's not as great as the original.
Crisis has that gritty dark violent goodness that epitomize ovas from the 80s. They just had a certain magic to them.
I agree, if they remade it there would be bullshit CG everywhere.
There was also a t.v. version called bubblegum crisis 2040, that was OK. If you don't compare it to the ova. The character designs and suit designs are quite different and they even get upgraded suits later that are just for more fanservice.
At the end of the day, you just can't beat the level of detail that went into 80s ovas.

the girls were so sexy in episode 8

Lodoss' budget suffered tremendously as the series went on unfortunately.
At least we got to see deedo's tits at the end.

TV show isn't just a time jump, it's an alternate telling.
>>
>>111301045
You are the only person I have seen that liked the TV series. I thought it was shit compared to the OVA's, but then the TV series is supposed to be more faithful to the author's story

I wouldn't mind some subs for TNG myself, currently we only have them for what's essentially a teaser episode. At least that means we got a nice little update on where the original crew is at in the future year 2008, including this rather unexpected but welcome detail.
>>111310435
Don't forget the second OVA series after the show, they polish off some minor hanging threads as well as provide some really great character stuff on top of the normal Patlabor silliness.
>>
>>111310435
I'll be honest, I enjoyed the first movie a lot more than the second. Patlabor 2 is a great movie, but it took itself far too seriously. I know that one of the strengths of the IP is its versatility when it comes to tone, but I feel that 2 went a little too hard on the seriousness.

Patlabor 2 was more serious than the first movie but it still had some comedy elements. I personally think it's the best Oshii movie.

Recently finished watching through the Green Jacket Lupin III anime, and been watching a few of the specials and movies here and there.

Also watched Gunbuster/Aim for the Top! the other day. That was fantastic. Especially loved the time dilation stuff. Then I watched its sequel Diebuster, and eh, it was only okay. Would have been better with no connection to Gunbuster at all.

Today I rewatched Kiki's Delivery Service, because it's been 25 years since it came out. Planning to start Patlabor soon. Do I need to start with the first OVA series, or can I just jump straight into the movies? Because I can't seem to find subbed downloads of the OVAs.

>Lupin III first series
My absolute nigga. I'm watching the Shin Lupin series right now. It's got 155 episodes and I'm currently on 70.

>>111298312
I've also been watching the films and specials. I personally really enjoyed Bye Bye Lady Liberty! and Blood Seal Eternal Mermaid. I recommend them. As far as the theatrical films go, The Mystery of Momo was nice. I was surprised that I found myself enjoying the Detective Conan VS Lupin III film too.

I'm patiently awaiting for this to be subbed. I wouldn't mind checking out a dub by Funi either.

This is pretty much fact.

It's truly a lovely ride. I'm hoping the new adaptation makes enough interest to finally get a domestic release of the original series. It would be a perfect Aniplex release.

Started watching Revolutionary Girl Utena recently. It's awright.

Is there anywhere I could find this complete and subbed?

Like most old things, it's on bakabt. Amazing how many old properties get abandoned or not even brought over in the US.

>>111342732

i dont watch the previews, but for example with Yang death (82), the episodes 80, 81 were filled with "This was the last time Julian saw Yang" "This is the last tea for Yang" "If Kircheis were alive this wont be the last trip for Yang Wenli" etc etc

When making an AMV/MAD, always try to use a song from the show. Like try really, really, hard to use a song from the show.

Use a song from the show.

>>111347779
It was a point that you don't have to limit yourself to fuckawful J-pop songs. Like your video. Five Star Stories is enjoyable and the music is fine on its own. But that video did a horrible job matching the tone of the visuals to the tone of the song. It's just a mess of random clips with music played over them.
I know you just want to be a buttmad contrarian, so I won't post any more, but the Tutu AMV has long been held in high regard and I can say, even though it's not a massive technical achievement, it still shows much more work, direction and connectivity between audio and visuals than the mess you posted.

Not to mention given the strict, rigid, and hardcore schooling regime, it is very unlikely anyone living in the '80s and '90s would have been able to see a lot of anime as it aired as often as we do now

>>111356846
>I had no idea really, I didn't really get how he got into power, did he take it? Or does some sort of military council vote him in?

In 2199 there's clearly a sort of division between military and his position in that he's voted in by the people or something like that, he was seen trying to rally public support with that speech.

In the original it doesn't actually matter how he came into power, just that he is. He needs only act as the definitive antagonistic force for the Yamato, a God playing with a toy and seeing how well it holds up to certain situations. His position here somewhat mirrors Queen Rafflesia in Harlock.
>>
>>111357345
>a God playing with a toy and seeing how well it holds up to certain situations
That's actually pretty horrifying.
>>
>>111357333
I was honestly expecting 1998 to suddenly become 2017 or something, glad they didn't go that path.
