Kurama by far was the best character, every fight gave him the ability to be creative and see some interesting things. It started to get meh when he made the plant wings and then won a fight by planting seeds hundreds of years early in that exact location.

Anyone else upset that Genkai came back to life? Bitch was one of the best characters, but her death had a lot of meaning that was undone at the end of the tournament. Toguro chose selfishness and overwhelming strength over Genkai's choice of giving to the next generation and mortality. Then Yusuke comes, learns Genkai's lessons, is tested by Toguro, and proves Genkai right. Except she comes back, making the whole relying on others and passing the torch to the next generation idea pointless.

This part I kind of understood. He's a glutton for punishment. I think Koenma hypothesizes in one scene that part of the reason Toguro chose to become a demon was to trap himself in a form he detested as punishment for all of his perceived failures (letting his students die, breaking things off with Genkai, rejecting Genkai's path of selflessness vs. selfishness, giving into bloodlust and revenge, etc.) He's trying to repent or purge himself or take responsibility for his actions. That being said, 10,000 years is a fucking stupid amount of time. I can't believe even a masochist like Toguro could withstand that. The writer should have made the number more realistic. 100 years, maybe?
