That way if one goes down the other doesn't.

This will stifle other people from getting into the scanlation scene. And the raws are also their for you to know what you want translated in the first place.
Remember that even with many scanlation groups around, they can't even scratch translating the huge amount of porn that exists. So badly, that CGrascal and Laruffi ends up speedlating everything else, because they're so slow.
It's no compromise. When raws are gone, we are at the mercy of the tastes of scanlators and their ilk. And when that happens, the amount of artists you end up knowing will be like back to pre-2000.
Think about it more deeply, about how fucked up everything will be if we did that.
