I want to watch Vision of Escaflowne because I saw two episodes of the dub on Fox Kids when I was in high school and was instantly hooked, but then I missed a couple because it was in a weird time slot and Fox canceled it.

The dub was an absolute hatchet job in terms of cutting shit out and adding useless recapping and shitty music, and it was still one of the most compelling shows I'd ever seen.

Everything I said also applies to Tekkaman Blade which I saw as Technoman dubbed on The WB before Kids WB was a thing. It was also canceled only a few episodes in and I've been waiting to rediscover that show for YEARS.

I'm currently watching Gundam 0079 for the first time and enjoying the hell out of it. The "outdated" animation's actually charming. Especially since I watch it on my modded original xbox, which is hooked up to an old CRT.

The original xbox is probably the best moddable console of all time, surpassing the wii.

You can play burned xbox games, have a huge selection of good emulators (many of which are still in active development after all of these years), moddable RAM and HDDs, can use XBMC as the OS, run linux, stream media to the console via your local area connection, etc.

Zambot is just GREAT. It's "Proto Gundam" in regards to how it handles the effects of giant robots fighting next to a city.
It doesn't always point it out but the constant destruction of the planet and the hatred of earthlings for the Jin Family end up being very realistic considering the situation of CHILDREN piloting mass-destruction machines against an army of world-destroying beasts commanded by an extremely hedonistic Genghis Khan.

Aside from the grimdarkness I noticed Zambot 3 had a few "proto-Real Robot" aspects: needing repair supplies was a plot point in one episode, and in another episode later on they talk about mass-producing Zambots and having the government train people to pilot them.

Manga, movies, and television series are all separate continuities. Though your best bet is going with the original film to get a feel for the franchise and just because it's great.

I just finished CCS today. It was alright but yeah, you can tell it's a show meant for little girls. Very simplistic and dragged out to all hell, but it definitely had some great heartwarming moments here and there. Don't regret watching it, but most of my favorite episodes were pretty early on, like 16 and 40.

Also watched Riding Bean which was pretty fun. Wish it could have been longer, between this and Gunsmith Cats it's too bad there was never a movie-length anime with movie quality animation.

Currently watching Getter Robo Armageddon which is absolutely insane and nonsensical, I don't really get what Dr. Soatome was trying to do with the Shin Dragon. Was he seriously trying to destroy the world just because his daughter died? The art is damn cool looking, though.

Tenamonya Voyagers had some really cool visual style, however the content itself wasn't particularly captivating. The ending was certainly abrupt, but it didn't bother me that much since it wasn't really interesting to watch in the first place.

What about her character? She is a useless bitch that does fuck nothing and her existence is a huge mystery or something of that ilk. The whole series is like your typical shoujo crap that's like a compilation of the worst fanfictions a couple of autistic fujoshits came up with.

>>110650468
The handsome men fit very well with the feminazi's worldview. They have this very twisted perception of manliness where men are more like women but powerful and scheming and vile. It's the way they perceive the patriarchy. The dependent little sister is just a common trope among shoujo crap - it's pandering to the fujoshi who always wanted a strong and handsome man in their life. The rest is pretty much the same - common tropes and motives found in the crappiest of shoujo.
>>
>>110647743
I animation for 40 Fire was way better than NG Lamunes, but the plot and robots where inferior to NG.

Seriously, in NG Lamunes & 40, the main character is freaking badass. He has a cool robots, battle tops (that he could use to travel on), and Da Cider.

The next show starts out fine, but the character are basically helpless outside of their robots, Da Cider and the Hero are forced into the same robot, Kaiser Fire only has a single attack, and the ending is pessimistic as fuck. The fact that the show basically ignores almost everything from the previous one didn't help.

Guess I'll be rewatching ZZ with the new subs after I finish rewatching Zeta. I'm enjoying Zeta a lot more on second viewing than I did when I first watched it, it's a strangely comforting thing to watch despite being so depressing.

I'm also working through the original You're Under Arrest TV series, which is kind of OK but nowhere near as tight as the OVAs; I'm almost finished with all things Patlabor (aside from the brand new stuff) movie 2 was probably one of the best things Oshii ever did.

Also, Utena is not about when empowerment. When the hot sociopath fucks her brains out maybe that'll get through to you. Utena is about finding strength within yourself and the problems with helping other people.
