It's horrible, I have no idea where else to consistently find mnda available for a proper downlod.a
>>

Go to scanlator's websites, and hope their mediafire links still work.
>>
>>108939011
I've already come across like a dozen manga in my normal everyday reading which can't be found without a lot of effort. Had to go IRC hunting. What fun.
>>
>>108939671
Or at all actually. There's a few that were only on MT it seems. One oneshot was luckily on AB and nowhere else though.
>>
>>108938403
I thought they were still fixing the password stealing shit? What's going on is it dead for real or is this pure speculating?
>>
>>108940334
Dead for real based on MT admin on IRC.
>>
>>108938997
Yeah, he downloaded all 1.something TB of it. The last thread here seemed optimistic about the situation, so I'd like to know what's happened since then.
>>
>>108940375
What? What's the reason? The fucking site says they are working on fixing it, yet the MT admin won't even update that to explain why?
>>
>>108940494
We don't know the exact reason, all we know is that between paypal saying no and HS hacking them, the admin pretty much said fuck it.

Maybe he was saying that because he was having a stressful week or maybe he really mean it but whatever it is, MT is, for all intent and purpose, dead unless stated otherwise.

The manga is saved though. Distributing the manga to the masses is another issue though.
>>
>>108940494
The admin just basically had enough of it. The servers are probably about to go offline within the next couple days.
>>
Just waiting on Woxxy to make a site. We have the manga already.
>>
Can't we do something like hentai@home?
>>
>>108940712
Is it gonna be ddl or torrent?
>>
>>108940863
With sekrit club layers and arbitrary horse fjordings, pass.
>>
>>108940988
There's no need for secret layers though, since it's just manga. Well, maybe for licensed stuffs but even then, it seems that only big name shounen manga like Naruto etc gets chased and fuck Naruto anyway.

Also, I'm guessing >>108940863 just meant the shared server system thingy, which I got to say, is pretty neat so who knows?
>>
>>108941144
>Also, I'm guessing >>108940863(You) just meant the shared server system thingy, which I got to say, is pretty neat so who knows?
Yes that's what I meant.

Or maybe share manga in a huuuge torrent. And use selective download to only download what you want.

But once torrents are made, can they still be updated without users redownloading the torrent (and thus splitting people up)?

That's weird, I'm pretty damn sure I got those two series from MT.

They probably took them down afterwards. BakaBT used to have a bunch more series before they started taking down a load.
>>
>>108941515
But isn't Trigun like, pretty old already? Why would they go after old titles?
>>
>>108941543
They went digital most likely. There are actually digital rips available now. Not that anyone ever knows about them.
>>
>>108941280
How exactly do these takedown notices work anyway? I mean, I see Ranma is on MT's list but you can get the manga just fine off BakaBT even though BakaBT adheres to takedowns as well.
>>
>>108941573
>They went digital most likely
Fair point. I forgot that digital releases are getting pretty popular these days.
>>
>>108941602
If they ask, they take it down I believe. If you look at the list of emails, there were accounts with Viz email addresses on there it seems. I doubt they were there to download manga.
>>
>>108941453
And they did it for what reason? Just faggotry? Or did Daiz pay them or something?
>>
>>108941641
>Just faggotry?
Pretty much. One guy SUPPOSEDLY was trying to help out with the archival process, got into MT's stuffs and noticed that MT has got really shitty security, shared the code on IRC, the other 2 hacked it and released the list of emails and passwords of all the users.
>>
>>108941635
Other than interacting on the forums, why else would you need an account. You could still find/read stuff without one.
>>
>>108941715
You need an account to download the manga.
>>
>>108941690

Jesus, just when you think there's a limit to how much a person can be a fag. At least someone managed to archive the manga.
>>
>>108941625
For better or worse.

>>108941715
It verifies that their account is legit I guess. That's the only reason I can think of. There would be some email verification.
>>
>>108941737
That's what I'm saying. I'm asking why would Viz employees need to download.

If you can see that a series is uploaded, you hardly also need to download it to then request it be taken down.

Why register at all, the Viz takedown email doesn't require a MT account.

What suggesting is that I'm sure that they enjoyed personal downloading for themselves as much as any body else.

>>
>>108942170
You can always drop into the irc channel and nag at them.
>>
>>108942170
Because it's not just about dumping the files and calling it a day. It's also long term planning, mainly organizing things properly for the future site and distribution.

For example, renaming all the files with the appropriating Daiz Naming Schemeâ„¢
>>
>>108942231
The torrents weren't going to use the scheme in the first place though.
>>
>>108942284

>>
>>108942170

1.6TB of stuff. I wonder how long it will take for the initial seed.

It would take me about 60 hours to download that, 372 hours to upload.
>>
>>108942308
Good. No point in having a poorly organised torrent - especially if its going to be gigantic.
>>
>>108942231
>For example, renaming all the files with the appropriating Daiz Naming Schemeâ„¢

That's not going to happen for all of the MT archive for the simple reason that there's not enough information in the MT filenames to do that. There's no differentiation of magazine and tank scans, no chapter numbers for all volumes, no group names etc. It'd take an insane amount of manual work to do that all.
>>
>>108942345
Pretty sure they were just going to script it all.
>>
What's the proposed naming scheme?
>>
>>108942345

a couple series per anon? we could do it

>>
>>108942574

how can a script tell if it is mag or tank scan if it isn't labeled as such
>>
>>108942484
It doesn't have to apply to all the files. As long as there is some form of structure, some level of organization, then it'll do and yes, it's been mentioned there will be some level of manual labor involved, though I'm sure we can collectively contribute to reduce the overall burden.

Someone proposed the vote on naming scheme like in Sad Panda, so that might work.
>>
>>108941625

It makes me wonder what other noteworthy digital releases there are. I would have never known about Phoenix's digital releases getting ripped if I hadn't check AB and saw the Phoenix request filled.
>>
>>108941635

>using their Viz email addresses to sign up

Are these people serious? Hopefully Woxxy autobans anyone who does such a stupid thing. Maybe Viz email accounts just get redirected to a shitty manga wiki, like how Waffles does if you don't have an account.
>>
>>108942702
Well, I've been wondering for a while why the last 2 or so volumes of Detroit Metal City went untranslated for so long, only to realize that Viz offered english digital releases for them and as far as I'm aware nobody ripped them so yeah, there's definitely a whole lot of others as well.
>>
>>108942702
>saw the Phoenix request filled
You're not alone. I've seen a few people say that already. I managed to finally get my hands on the Case-DCP Blame scans recently. Someone should really make a catalog of all of them to be honest.
>>
>>108942778

Is there a torrent site that those groups release to? I only saw Phoenix on some tracker I've never heard of that I got via Googling. I'm just following the weekly /co/ Hydra rip threads now. I suppose I should go look at what digital manga there are.
>>
>>108942695
Yes, of course the files can be renamed from the original MT mess (who the hell decided that adding uploader id as the first thing was a good idea?) to something more sane with not to much effort but making it follow the Daiz Naming Scheme would be unrealistic.
>>
>>108942844
Not really. The weekly torrents go up on all the main sites, but they die not that long after. Not all of them get much notice, mirroring and such. If you can use Usenet, you'd be somewhat better off it seems. ComicBT has some rips. Otherwise you're usually stuck searching for DDL. Was trying to navigate some DC++ hubs recently. Got a few things from there.
>>
>>108942900
I was actually considering trying to rip all of Twin Spica from Amazon as well.
>>
>chapter before volume

>volume before chapter

Which?
>>
>>108942965
Latter.
>>
>>108942965
Chapter before volume. It works better for ongoing series and people are more likely to refer to specif event by the chapter. Especially when they were reading manga on-going, so there was no volume at the time.
>>
>>108942965
>chapter before volume
I'm pretty used to v->c but I can see the logic in c->v especially for sorting

>>
>>108943001
specific*
>>
>>108942965
We've been over this many times already. Chapter before volume means the files are always sorted correctly and it doesn't require you to guess volume numbers with magazine scans.
>>
>>108942778
>Case-DCP Blame scans
Can you make a torrent and put it on nyaa?
>>
>>108942965

>underscore vs spaces
>>
>>108942965
as unintuitive as it sounds, I support chapter before volume
-almost any multiple release manga will have chapters
-even if publisher doesn't give explicit chapter numbers you need numbering for multirelease stuff
-you will need chapter numbering when all you have to go off of is mag scans before tankoban releases
I guess this is why Daiz's proposed naming scheme seems logical to me
>>
>>108942965
For individual chapters, chapters before volume.
For volume archives, volume before chapters.
Obviously.

>>
>>108942774

The funny thing is that just buying the last two volumes used and scanning them will produce better results while costing the same.

Except you'd need to level them, so I guess there's that.

Any idea what resolution Viz releases their digital manga in?
>>
>>108943155
If I add them to the volume archives when the volume is done they will.

>>108943175

>>108943242
Viz - ~800px wide
Amazon Viz releases - 1150px or greater wide I think
If the Tezuka rips came from Amazon, then that was 1400px in that case.
>>
I'm wondering if the people who find volume before chapter better use the month-day-year scheme.

I always used the day-month-year, and I used to find volume before chapter stranger, so I'm glad it's going to be changed.

For me it makes more sense to have what's more likely to change first so you can distinguish between to files even with truncated filenames.
>>
>>108943230

I suspect Amazon either made a faustian deal with them to get more Kindle purchases, or they just fucked up somewhere.
>>
>>108943526
I think it's just that Amazon knows their priorities. My guess is that Viz lets them use the full resolution images, but they do what they want. Viz serves practically the worst because they really don't know shit. B&N seems to pretend it's serving reasonable images. And Amazon actually serves reasonable images.

What's weirder is the manga on the Google Play store thing. It looks like a mix of them. Some good, some bad. Some even physical copy scans for whatever reason. It appears to have a small watermark in the bottom corner though.

I'm pretty much stuck with the combination of AB or BakaBT plus fmd+Batoto/Kissm.
>>
>>108945520
What would you recommend instead? Or as an alternative.

>>108945554
What's AB?
>>
>>108945582
There is none.

It's AnimeBytes, private tracker, and it's really no better than BakaBT.
>>
>>108945607
Frankly it's much worse, unless you're just looking for entry-level stuff that could probably be found on BakaBT anyway.
>>
>>108945643
Because of their historic yen system, you are actually more likely to find a oneshot there than anywhere else it so happens. I've managed to find a bunch of oneshots that only ended up on AB. Apart from that, nothing special.
>>
>>108945643
Although AB's manga pool is smaller than BakaBT, it's quite unfair to say worse. There are times when AB actually had something BakaBT.

>entry-level stuff
Speaking of which, AB had the complete cromartie manga while BakaBT hasn't updated theirs past vol.12.

>>
>>108945755

and? i like to know when i am out of tank volume scans and moving onto slightly to significantly worse magazine chapter scans. you shouldn't be keeping the mag scans over the tank scans when volumes finish anyways, unless they are special cases like berserk where you have entire chapters redrawn.

all the single chapter scans then sort together, and all the volumes sort together without added fuckery like giving specials and omakes fake chapter numbers. ie volume 2 omake is now c12(fake chapter) 1x [volume 2 omake]

and dont even get me started on chapter numbering for series where the volume and mag chapter numbers dont match.

Good thing our savior Daiz (and co.)'s scheme accounts for exactly that.

Maybe for people who prefer bloat over sub quality. For example (only) AB has Rizlim's Softenni with AAC sound which is 3x lighter than one on "Placebo" bakabt.

>AB's offer is different, not worse.
Exactly. For some reason, a lot of anons just can't seem to accept the fact that AB is a complement to Baka, not a substitute.

Yeah, I use Baka more often but having an AB account is useful (and convenient) as well.
>>
>>108947014
The DNU has a lot less effect on manga. While the anime might be removed, you're often likely to find the manga, even if it's licensed. Someone mentioned Trigun before. DNU on MT, but still on BBT.

The sheer number of pages in a tank scan would tend to tip you off.

Also statistics and heuristics. If there's over 100 pages it's pretty much a tank.

This requires deep archive scanning though which is as hard as turning your linear scan function into a recursive one. i.e. insanely easy.
>>
>>108947340
Guilty.
>>
>>108947369

>>
>>108947424
Well deep archive scanning means if you find an archive inside an archive, scan the inner archive too. If it's page counting you're after, it's pretty easy.

Although if you're referring to something else then you may have lost me.
>>
so which one of you faggots is setting up MT2.0: now with rudimentary security?
>>
>>108947469
The whole point is to differentiate scans from a magazine vs scans from a tank. The number of pages doesn't tell you that. And I don't know what archives inside archives has to do with this other than being pants-on-head retarded.
>>
>>108947473
>rudimentary
>implying anything could be more rudimentary than the MD5 "protection" MT used for passwords
>>
>>108947510
The thing is, magazine scans are highly unlikely to be lumped together into one folder - they are usually archived into their separate chapters.

Sure, there may be a few isolated issues with the page counting solution, but is in most cases a very good way to determine whether something is a tank/mag scan.
>>
>>108947512

are you literally retarded?

>>
>>108947538
>magazine scans are highly unlikely to be lumped together into one folder
Right, they're usually put in different folders. Archives inside archives is extremely rare these days and that's a very good thing.
>>
>>108947538
It's still purely up to the whims of the person who repacked the volume. Even if there was some moderate percentage which was not, it's a huge pain in the ass with that many files.
>>
>>108947510
Oh, okay. Like I said I suspected that you had lost me.

There are several algorithms you can use. I did a half-assed thesis on codecs years ago, but that was primarily directed at audio compression.

I'd suggest
>prioritizing png over jpg (obviously)
>checking for low-quality jpeg encoding through header inspection
>comparing noise levels: crap scans will have a lot of that
>comparing high frequency components: overuse of median and poorly-selected noise filters destroys them
and some other methods which I have forgotten or didn't investigate because I was researching how to better encode not how to compare loss levels.

You will NOT be able to autodetect whether something came from a tank or not, but you can detect which scan has higher image quality.
>>
>>108947784
>>prioritizing png over jpg (obviously)

gotta keep those scan-artifacts at perfect quality
>>
>>108947817
Well that's where weighted scores come into play.

I went thru that when I tried to upload years ago and got an explanation. Knowing history also helps as the PU rating was implemented before the jury system. Statistically speaking, users with little experience upload torrents that have problems. They may upload degraded material (deliberately), have terrible initial seeding, have low bandwidth, or lose interest in initial seeding their upload after a few days have passed (abandoned). Thus, the PU rating protects the community from bad uploaders. Jury was added later on to deal with problems that PU rating wasn't able to prevent.

Most people don't care about ethics as you've seen in past /a/ threads already, so they would go to HS for anime.

Also, Horriblescans is still the only choice for some titles unless you subscribe to Crunchyroll. And for titles that other groups sub, you might wait 3 to 6 weeks longer to get the sub (that is STILL based upon HS's translation and HS's video). Even Underwater uses HS's subbing script and video as the basis for their re-encodes. When HS had a subbing error, Underwater also had that subbing error....

>bbt is autism personified, the the autistic moderators take ages to approve torrents
They are waiting for the torrent to be updated with the proper items. So the uploader has either abandoned their torrent (frequent) or the fansub group is taking their time updating their release. So, you can blame the jury process, but the fansubbers are no longer as numerous or speedy as they used to be, so wait times for fixes or propers will take longer or even forever because some subbers lose interest and quit a project. There's no magic number to tell you in how long to wait when you are waiting on the subber. YOU can go to the subbers' sites and post "Hurry up dammit, you are too slow" but subbers don't like those posts.

One example of a bakabt torrent stuck in the jury process - the subber in 2013 was doing a certain movie, thus the other subbers didn't bother duplicating the effort. That effectively made the movie a sole source. 2013 became 2014 and people like you blamed bakabt for waiting for an update. The subber lost their translator but didn't announce on their site! So the torrent waited forever for fixes with no one knowing. And people like me who found out didn't bother posting in that torrent why it was waiting or why no other groups were subbing it. AFAIK no other group is doing that anime so no new torrent has been uploaded. Sure, YOU blame bakabt for all these problems, but that is like you blaming the doctor for all your medical problems from smoking, heavy drinking, and meth use because he is conveniently there.
>>
>>108952423
We all know it's CR's script, but when a group uses it, they are in effect claiming it is theirs. That 's how the copyright law works, and short of an alternate consistent definition, I will use that one.

If months go by and they delay the approval of x-groups release because they're waiting for y-groups release instead, it IS their fault. Stop acting like replacing an outdated or possibly inferior copy takes more than a few clicks. Stop acting like elitist faggots.

I could name at least one title subdesu-h finished, that erobeat claimed to be "working on" and that alone was enough for bbt to not approve subdesu's release. A release that was not approved for nearly two years while erobeat released NOTHING.

And I could name a few other titles that were not approved or delayed approval for a long time because no one single group released the entire thing on itself.

Buy hey, that's the fault of the subbers, right? I didn't think so.

It's a problem of the uploader not doing enough research into the torrent's material in the first place. The uploader just wants to upload something NOW as soon as possible.

In one sense, AB has a similar problem. I've seen in past 4chan threads where people brag about upscaling anime or audio just to have something different to upload to AB. Thus, a 320k MP3 on AB might have originally been a 128k MP3. The same with FLAC on AB.
