Anime like cinema is a visual medium, so a lot, it's a shame that most anime (like most commercials movies and tv shows I suppose) lacks of the "show don't tell" and just infodump everything.
And is also important to set up the atmosphere of the show.
Quite a bit. Visual direction + sound can make for great viewing even if the plot is shite.
