Who Houdini 15 master race here?
What do you think of the soft?
Do you think it's becoming the god tier soft of the 3D industry?
>>
>>516547
I am still just a lowly apprentice. The magicians ways are still mysterious to me.

My Master always was the Godking of the Elementals , the Lord of destruction, the one who knows and deals with all known entities in the realm.

Who will challenge him, who dares to step up?
True, there are other mighty magicians, but they are all specialized in different arcane arts.
True benevolent magicians love harmony not conflict.
The realm of 3D has many gods, kings, and demons, there is a lot of conflict, but in the end everything is always balanced out.
Just be grateful that you are a citizen of the realm and are free to roam among them.

Give us the benefits to using it over others.

Well anon, at least you made your point poetically.

>>516560
A very versatile package that is more innovative and empowering than others soft (when you keep in mind that it won't replace a dedicated sculpting and texturing soft).
>>
>>516579
Zero information value post. Besides simulation what else does Houdini do well? Can it realistically be the core of a pipeline instead of max\maya?
>>
>>516591
no. use XSI ICE instead. Better, cleaner nodes
>>
>>516579

So not very worthwhile in this day and age so.
>>
>>516598
wtf?

>>516591
Did you expect I make a full review of each feature and compare it to your jewtodesk soft? I don't see why it couldn't be the core of a pipeline instead of max/maya.

Sculpting and texturing is 90% of my pipeline. I can check scale and shit and mess around with a few verticies in blender.

Also starts thread calling software god tier then gets butthurt when people ask how do the tools compare to the leading software.
>>
>>516620
Good "traditional" tools + procedural tools + good integrated vfx + good renderer + highly self modifiable + an indie version that gives you almost everything for cheap. I think not every soft can do that much of stuff with this quality. Of course it won't replace a dedicated texturing and sculpting app but that's the same for other 3D soft.

Mac faggot here. I've heard wonders of Houdini, and seen some courses online that look amazing, so I tried the aprentice version.

The first 15 seconds everything went fine. But then I tried placing a "test rubber thing" on the screen, and the moment I hit "enter" the whole thing went to hell, Houdini froze for about three minutes, and then, every time i tried to do ANYTHING, even just tumbling the view, it froze, or had a fps of about a frame a second.

What the fuck is that? No other 3d software gave me so much trouble before, my computer ain't even that bad so I don't know whats going on.

After an hour I gave up and uninstalled it.

I've started learning Houdini recently and so far I like it a lot.
It's not that impressive for "traditional" modeling. And I think there are no tools for sculpting and texture painting.
However, Houdini is great for procedural modeling, shading/lighting/rendering, dynamics, rigging, animation and getting your whole scene together. So, if you want to do any (or all) of these things (and especially if you know some things about coding), Houdini is a great choice in my opinion.
Pair Houdini with something like 3d-Coat and you're set.
>>
>>516700
This. But anyway, you always want a dedicated texturing/sculpting apps if you want the best result. You can do fine without a sculpting app if you don't do complicated organic stuff thought.
I'm pairing Quixel with Houdini and honestly that's great 'cause they integrated Quixel Colors into Houdini to automatically map your color id texuture UVs to a specific material.
I'm also happy to know that you can create your own tools with Houdini Indie thanks to python scripting. In comparison Maya or Modo indie version disable scripting.
>>
i really like the interface. but modeling was a pain so i stopped.

Prefer maya or max. They say its great for fx. it looks pretty complex desu
>>
Its not just for for the usual pipelines its also used for technical direction and as a center point for studios to give their TD's/ animators a tool to communicate and code to speed up production time.

Yes I fucking love it! I don't use it for modelling / texturing / anim, but for FX and sims it is so fucking good!
>>
>>516808
Where did you learn how to use it? Dt?
>>
>>516815
Through the documentation mostly. It helps if you like using expressions and scripting.
>>
it already is the alpha software in the industry but artists are not smart enough to use it so results are limited by the creativity of TAs and such

you need maya and zbrush to supplement it anyway

Goddamn, youre annoying. You sound like a teenage girl or just a really pretentious developer.

If youre the type of person that advocates this program I think its safe to assume its shit. Blender is god tier sof, and its free sof, the sof is my favorite sof out there :^) epic sof imo lhh lbvs Gwaf yaaassss

From what I gather you would want to model and sculpt in maya, blender,z brush, etc.

And then take everything you have and send it over to houdini for the rest.

So for my workflow it would be probably

Maya > Zbrush > SubPainter/Mari > Houdini

I dont understand why people feel the need to have a jack of all trades program because they will usually only be a master of one.

I model in Houdini out of habit. It's gotten better, but still far from ideal as far as viewport interaction goes. I've gotten too used to the flexibility of having a node network. It comes in handy, even for destructive modeling.

Why is there so much animosity between artists these days? I miss the friendliness of old forums.
>>
>>518431
its because some artists cannot take criticism even when what they're doing looks bad and their workflow is retarded
>>
>>518445
it doesn't help that there are way too many people on the internet who can't be bothered to give remotely constructive criticism anymore. you can't go anywhere online besides social media anymore without finding extremely elitist people who can't be bothered to care about other peoples' work or intentions. /ic/ is a great example of the trend towards elitism and negativity that's totally ruined a lot of internet art spaces. /3/ is honestly pretty bad in that regard too but there are still plenty of helpful and reasonable people here to balance out the know-it-alls
>>
>>518458
/ic/ is a great board, far better than you'll get on other forums with names / accounts. They expect you to spend hundreds to thousands of hours gitting gud
>>
>>518459
that's the kind of elitism i'm talking about. "don't dare ever post artwork until you're you're already a god at your subject of study" is idiotic. the point is supposed to be provide constructive criticism for how you can improve your work and your studies, not scream at people for not being good enough for whatever arbitrary criteria you feel like judging them to. besides, there isn't any point in sharing your work with people if you already know you're good at it. if that's what you want out of an internet community, then what you're looking for is a penis measuring contest
>>
>>518462
>that's the kind of elitism i'm talking about.
its not elitism. Its called not being not gud. Its the same on a website called stackoverflow, the largest site for programmers to ask questions. You're expected to do your homework before posting stupid shit or you get downvoted and banned.
>>
>>518464
that isn't how artistic development works
>>
>>518465
you have to git gud at drawing / sculpting just the same as you have to git gud at writing c++. It takes thousands of hours in both cases
>>
>>518467
>have to git gud at writing c++. It takes thousands of

of course, but you still need people giving you good critique along the way. telling people not to post their art until they're good is moronic. go to any art school worth a shit and critique is a fundamental element to every art related course. constructive criticism is an incredibly valuable tool for the growing artist. telling people not to show their work unless it's "good" is clueless and elitist. how are people supposed to get input on their work and how to improve it if they can't share it? do you see how completely backwards and idiotic that idea is? even though i think these ideas apply to programming as well to some extents, i do think you really can't take what works for programming communities and apply it to art because they're very different fields
>>
>>518468
you're wasting my time now. You have 2 choices : git gud or dont. Anyone thats actually gud will say the same thing. go away now
