So /3/ seems much more focused on gaming side of 3d creation. Anyone know where I can go to talk about and argue over different architectural/urban design based programs?

Like autodesk, sketchup, lumen, vray, etc etc etc

What I am facing right now is a good way to take complex large urban designs into a good real time renderer. Currently testing and playing with LumenRT. I have tried unity in the past but it didn't play well with sketchup.

I used lightup in sketchup for a while but it just wasn't giving me the quality I wanted for larger areas. LumenRT looks promising but trying to gauge out other things before I decide to buy.

this is not how you use greentext

Hating sketchup is a /3/ meme

If you really want to do architecture, Revit is growing in popularity. It is a BIM (building informational modeling) software used in the industry. Unlike sketchup or autocad (even autocad architecture), revit gas information built into the model about materials, costs, and thermal performance. As a purely 3d modeling software, it isn't exactly very powerful (can't do overly organic shapes) but for architecture, it is excellent.

seconding this. Revit is an amazingly useful tool. It pretty much automates the production of all your drawings. You build everything in 3d and it produces plans, sections and elevations for you , which is a lifesaver if you have to make constantly make revisions to projects.
It has a few annoying quirks which you sometimes have to work around ( making proper bay windows is an absolute pain). We use exclusively in our office ( aside from drawing details in autocad)/
