Tell him if he really wants to champion Blender, he should learn everything he can from the class and the 3D package(s) you guys are using, find the limitations in Blender (of which there are many) and write add-ons or get add-on authors to write add-ons for that shit.
Then tell him he's being a counter productive jerk, not because it's Blender but because it's not what you guys are working, and people labeled "jerks" don't get hired in the world of creative collaborative enterprises.
